Hi Hugo40, first of all we are not medical experts, my advise is to contact your consultant or his/her secretary and ask them to advise about Anti-coag when to stop taking it.
I am also on Apixaban, and will be going in for operation and biopsies (cancer) this week coming, I will be having a covid 19 swab on Monday and will need to shield.
Like you I am worried about going into hospital for the fear of Covid 19. But you do need the angiogram otherwise your consultant would not do this..
I have been shielding since March as per government letter, and really only been to the hospital for appointments and a short walk to get the daily paper from the paper shop and that is all.
If you are worried, please do phone up the hospital and speak to the consultant or his secretary.
Ring the angiogram suite on Monday, they will advise. As they go in through the artery, they might want to review these before hand. Good luck with the angiogram. I’ve got a brain scan next month, covid won’t put me off going. We still need to make sure we don’t neglect our own health matters through fear of covid. 😊👍
Clinical places are the safest places you can go to as they take every precaution there is so you will be fine at your angiogram.
Give your doctor a ring to ask them to explain if you need to stop your anticoagulants before the procedure.
Best of luck at your angiogram!
Hi Hugo40, Please don't put off other vital treatment because of covid19. Hospitals are probably one of the safest places to be now. We have learned much since the beginning of the pandemic and it doesn't seem sensible to trade off help and treatment with another health problem with the fear of contracting covid19.
Please seek proper advice from a trained medical professional with regard to your anti-coagulants. Even a pharmacist would be able to advise you on whether you need to speak to a GP, so you could even phone one from the comfort of your home to discuss quickly, before progressing to a GP.
Since May I have had an ultrasound on my hands, a visit to A@E, been to the doctor's surgery. I have also gone to a large London hospital three times for blood tests, another at my surgery, and another one at my local hospital. I have also been to the dentist twice and am going again on Tuesday. On the 13th I am going to have a tooth taken out in hospital (due to my medical conditions) First time I was nervous but have been fine since then as the precautions in the hospitals and surgery have been excellent.
It is essential that you contact the hospital if you are on blood thinners. I have been on warfarin since 2008 and have had to stop it for any procedures of which there have been a few including sinus surgery.
