What I suggest you do if you are in the UK is look at the NICE guidelines or The FDA if in the States, regarding your condition and see if those guidelines are being followed. It is very true that analgesia does not work for every one and for certain types of analgesia, addiction has now become a big worry, both in America with the opiod crisis and now here in the UK. NICE are currently in the process of drawing new guidelines up. Medications should be tapered when coming off them and under medical supervision.

Ive been on opiods 3 years theres no issues of addiction n god knows what else people claim .i just could do with something towards it to top my pregab up & get better pain block as ive abdominal complications aswell so im very limited pain relief wise & i dont want morphine i dont like it . And anesthnetist said its bad for you long term .

There should not be a problem with pain management with your Consultants but your GP will not make any decisions alone on increasing any pain medication because they simply don’t have the experience dealing with long term chronic pain. Also the forthcoming guidelines are looking at other therapies to work alongside pain medications. Long term chronic pain is amongst the most difficult to manage, often needing a number of therapies to achieve results. 🌸🌈

I also have abdominal complications .my pain as hit a new high for me .but yet they want to throw morphine at me .when your not supposed to mix pregab with it .

How old are you now ??

Is the problem down to posture or when you sit or lie down in bed.

Has your Doctor given you medications ?

I have problems with my spine after a car accident it has damaged C1/C8 in my neck. I will be discussing that with my Doctor tomorrow as it is clicking and dragging on the joints where I can feel the joints move. I als suffer Psoriasis of the spine and I need to be careful how I walk and sit down., My car has special seating and that helps.

Consider asking your Doctor about the use of a TENS Machine. I works on the principle of the locked gate system and numbs down the pain

Ive tried injections i couldnt move or walk properly so thats gone out of window .i cant bend either terrible pain .havent touched my toes in 20 years .im at whitts end with the pain .

β€’ in reply toTizzy39

Tizzy,

Vit B12 is not a steroid, as we get older, this helps repairing tendons etc and lubricates the joints

Vit D3 the Sunshine drug also helps repair joint and tendon damage.

I take Vit D3 in tablet form by the GP the B12 is given by injection every twelve weeks or so. Most of my joints seem to be improving. However my neck is in a flare at this time and the neck and damage seems to be quite extensive.

You can purchase Two Channel TENS in chemists like BOOTS or Lloyds. I purchase mine from BODY CLOCK on the internet. You will be given instructions with the machine however talk to your GP first He can arrange some help in using the machine. You will need to two channel machine they have various channels that give different treatment rates. Pain Pens also can help sometimes

Its absoloutly nothing to do with vit d ect ive damaged my back in a accident & got scoliosis aswell what the hell as vitimin d ect to do with my back 🧐

β€’ in reply toTizzy39

Same as me I was involved in a car accident and the dash board fell across my legs and my spine was damaged on top of an earlier injury. My LHS foot was trapped between clutch and car. That lead to further problems and was retired at thirty eight years old. I never worked again now I am seventy years old.

As the previous poster said You can have a Physical Therapist use a TEN'S unit to alleviate the pain, and to show you how to use a portable unit at home. These units are available online. My friend purchased a Ten's unit vest that he say's stops the pain :) . His Dr. didn't want to continue to give him opioid prescriptions, especially since my friend wanted his Dr, to up his dosage :| . I have a TEN'S unit that my chiropractor gave me almost 22 years ago, after I had a car accident that caused 2 herniated, and 2 bulging disc's :) that I also used at my home. The pain after the accident was unbearable from the top of the back of my neck/skull area to the back of my knee's (Sciatica ) :( *********************************************************************************************** I also had a Physical Therapist show me how to use this same TEN'S unit at home :) , 9 years later on my knees to relieve the pain of almost bone on bone knee pain, caused by aggressive chemotherapy :( . At the age of 43 the Radiation Technician told my Radiation Oncologist that I had slight scoliosis, and that was why my back could not lay completely flat on the table :( . I don't take any prescription pain killers. I take natural anti inflammatory's, along with a high strength joint formula, and 1200 mg of fish oil daily :) . I have no pain in my neck, back, knee's, or anywhere else in my body :) . I am fit, and my workout routine includes 130 push up's , 30 planks, interval training, running, and 270 jumping jacks, and stepper with weights on my ankles, and weights in my hands :) :) :). ***********************************************************************************************There is also a minimally invasive surgery that cauterizes the nerves involved which will stop the pain signal from reaching your brain. You will have a small area of numbness from this procedure :) . Opioid drugs bring in billions of dollars for the Pharmaceutical industries, and the Dr.'s who prescribe them. Now Dr.'s who over prescribe these drugs face law suits, and or their licenses being taken away. I will tell you my friend who I mentioned earlier was becoming addicted to the Opoids. The Dr. did try to put him on morphine. He can not have his back, and shoulder surgery's until he loses 50 lbs. He is now trying to lose the excess weight. ******************************************************************************************** I also had a family member who was a roofer. He fell from a house he was working on. He broke his back :( , but he had full use of his legs, and hands after a couple of surgery's. He won a 2 million dollar settlement from the job insurance. His pain was unbearable :( . He eventually lost everything, and almost his house, because he was so addicted, and started supplementing the drugs the Dr. was prescribing by getting drugs on the street :( . He died 45 days ago from a bad batch of drugs he got on the street. He leaves a 5 year old son, and a 9 year old daughter who will need to go to therapy to deal with the loss of their father :( :( . Please try to look into natural pain killers, and natural anti-inflammatory's. Many Dr's won't tell you about the things I am telling you, that can alleviate your pain but they do exist :) :) . GOD bless you :)

I'm on pregabalin too been on it years and find it eases but doesn't always take it away completely have they suggested amitriptyline at all I find that really helps especially with sleep. Hope you get somewhere. I used to have steroid injections but they don't do them anymore I also benefited greatly from acupuncture but don't do that on nhs anymore as say no scientific evidence it works but fact it got me back in gym showed it did.

Injections stop me been mobile & it made things worse .so not on them no more .yeah my drs said they dont work for pain .& ill end up in prison as it makes people violent .but the hospital say different i know it helps me for some of the pain .amatriptaline dunt agree with me non of that family of meds .they put me on deluxatine lol so called nerve pain treatment .i read leaflet & it says its to treat incontinence in women πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ so im going to be confronting them on this .ive stopped taking them as not been funny there not for me my bladder is down to abdominal complications & it wont change no meds will change that .

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbitsβ€’ in reply toTizzy39

It's awkward when Drs don't agree and your stuck in middle. Often some drugs for something completely different initially but help with something else. Amitriptyline an anti depressant, pregabalin anti epileptic. I was put on gababentin first but that didn't agree with me at all only had 2 and didn't know if I was on this earth or fullers!! Hope you get sorted

Tizzy39 profile image
Tizzy39β€’ in reply toCraftyperson

I had gabepentine for 15 years then got moved to pregab because the gabbas stopped working .ametriptaline does not agree with me .anti depressents will not change anything for me they dont prescribe them to me because they know why im deppressed hardly suprising with my pain in back & that then abdominal complications .nah no anti depressent in this world will sort out my problems i get them told i wont fobbed off with crap .

Craftyperson profile image
CraftypersonReading Rabbitsβ€’ in reply toTizzy39

Gabebentin definitely didn't agree with me, I didn't need anti depressants but gave me amitriptyline to help me sleep which it does. Sorry your having a bad time and hope get sorted soon

The maximum dose for Pregablin is normally 600mg split between two/three doses which unfortunately is what you are on. I can imagine your Pain specialist would be reluctant to increase over the recommended limit.

Is there an additional drug that could be used as an add on. Pain specialists at the hospital are normally the experts on what can be given. I do think the body can get used to medication. I know when I first went in Pregablin it knocked me for six and now apart from a very mild headache I don't have any side effects. I have kept to the lowest dose possible, still in some pain but don't want the drugged effect a higher dose gives me. I am given Cocodamal 30/500mg (Zapain) as an add on for pain and Ibuprofen for inflammation. I do have osteoarthritis as well. When the burning, tingling, shooting pains (neuropathic) are severe I find Lidocaine patches do help take the top edge off it.

I think GP's have been frightened by the addiction problems in America and unfortunately where America goes we seem to lamely follow. I think these drugs if used within the stated guidelines can be a great help. I know addicts have been buying Pregablin as a top up to the other drugs they take to get a greater high. NICE who decides in the UK decides what drugs and at what dose patients can receive for each medical condition are making life difficult for prescribers as they have to substantiate the reading they deviate from this. I know if I was having the lidocaine patches for fibromyalgia alone they would have been taken off me. I was fortunate in one way it was for neuropathic pain after shingles which unfortunately never went away.

I do hope they can find a way forward for you.x

My older sister is paralyzed and suffers with neuropathic pain every day! It affects her feet especially with a nasty burning sensation! The pain she experiences ranges from 8-10! It's awful! But despite this she is very courageous and fights on as good as she can! But it's a tough call as she sadly is bedridden all the time πŸ™

She has a care team visiting 3 X per day! But her son lives with her so he is also caring for her as well! But it's tough on both of them!

Just to say her Christian faith gives her the strength to persevere throughput! So I have to remember that also when I experience lots of difficulties in my life with work and private life! I couldn't clench my fingers to a first yesterday, aching and stiff joints, osteoarthritis πŸ™β€οΈ

TENS and Pain Pens are non invasive and in my case cut down pain by 30%, also cut down on pain medication. I take Tramadol, Opiate and have reduced the dose to 50%. This is because of getting older. I stopped the TENS a while ago and now they have held down my Pain drugs by about 50%. They introduced Vit B12 Injections with D3 tablet to build up on the bone joints and repair some damage, it works, They will do tests to confirm if the vits are needed.

40% of the population has a shortage of Vit D the sunshine drug. B12 cannot be produced by the body. It does wonders reducing pain. Strange to say

Remember you need to be able to control your pain and sometimes pushing medications becomes problematic. Your pain belongs to you, I have learned over thirty years no matter what helps or does not help I will try. Being Dog in a manger and not considering different treatments is your loss, Learn to help yourself. I still take a tranche of medication, small medium doses. Our pain belongs to us, we need to be able to help ourselves I also us Cox 2 medications because I am unable to take NSID drugs. Always be on the lookout for alternative medications, your Doctor hopefully will help and suggest other treatments

Nope i cant have tramadol alergic to it .its complicated .thats why its hard to get me adiquate pain care .

β€’ in reply toTizzy39

You do not need to take Tramadol there are many other Pain Medications, including TENS and depending on age and other things, medications are only a small part of a treatment plan.

i attended Pain Clinic and was show various techniques to control pain. You sound incapable to square a circle and you are a slave to your Pain, consider different ways to help yourself. You have had explained to you different methods of Pain Control. I would suggest you ask your Doctor to arrange a Physio to explain methods to you so you move on. To be honest I cannot understand anyone in this day and age to suffer pain in the extreme. You need to be able to be able to explain your needs and move on in your Life.

You MAY not control all the pain, although you will control a good percentage of this if you are positive in all your needs and expectations.

Stop dwelling on your worries and do something about it. I manage my pain and medications

Sorry you feel that way, I had not understood regards TENS. I went through a course on the TENS many years ago I was trained up by a Mental Health Therapist and Pain Clinic, it did help and I became able to block pain in various areas with my twin channel machine with all the different programs

Have you had training in machine use. Some machines act as a toning tool for your muscles and that tones up your tendons as well. Acts as an EMS machine and that helps as well.

If you have had your training you will be competent and understand your needs and expectations.

Be brave

It’s used for epilepsy and my son takes it but IF he was stopped by police he has proof of what it’s for as it has been known for drug addicts to take it. If it’s for a medical condition then it’s not a problem Garbapentim is also used as pain relief which is an epileptic drug
