What's anyone done today

Pottered around and popped to the shops I noticed this yesterday and today, that the car park behind the shops is busier than its been in a long time. I've also decided that for the work training on Friday I'm going to use the bus and see how that goes, haven't been on a bus since March

not much. My endo and bowel and bladder issues kept me at home all day.

in reply to thara9643

Its horrible isn't it when you feel run down and can't do anything!

That's what I said I had to start somewhere when I got the bus to that interview in Newport back in may as I feel I can't hide away forever and I was fine.

For me today I have been on future learn, done some job interview preparation by seeing where a place is I am due to go to a week tomorrow and combined it with my daily walk which went well and picked up some milk on the way back home and applied for some more jobs as well.

Good evening

I hope you are well

You say your parents have criticised you for leaving your job , I would like to ask if you are still talking to them?

I ask this because my Mother is putting all her worries on me but after looking after my Father in my forties I am no longer able to cope with the problems she finds herself in ?

in reply to Roukaya

No they have been giving me the silent treatment since may last year because I wouldn't give them their own way just to punish but I'm enjoying the peace and quiet!

Roukaya profile image
Roukaya in reply to

It is interesting that you do not let their silent treatment get to you .

I realise as I continually talk how emotionally draining my Mother is with her good behaviour to her friends and lashes out at if I say a wrong word

I can see that since I lost my Father I would go and support her but I was supporting someone to my own destriment

I think I should just listen to her and sort out my own life

in reply to Roukaya

I used to get upset over it but since this pandemic came along it has made me realise that life's too short to go upsetting myself over things I can't do anything about and that is one of them.

Point is what goes around comes around and that situation is a fine example as they are on their own with no family local to help them and not very well either but they should have thought of that one before that one day they would be made to face the consequences of their actions of abusing their children psychologically.

I have an interview in Barry a week on Friday for a part time job in Gregg's and will be getting the train there and back and will have to use a mask but I will be fine once I'm there.

Been out this lunchtime for my usual walk to see where a place was where I am getting interviewed a week tomorrow as part of my preparation and have been reading the job description guessing the kinds of questions they might ask and how I might answer them.

Worst thing is that I don't get the job and its not the end of the world!

Very best of luck with the interview, you sound like a good candidate so I hope you get the job. Fingers crossed.🤞

in reply to Outandabout

I got 3 interviews next week 2 for part time jobs and one for a full time one as I applied for the part time ones to keep an open mind.

Good luck. Love Gregg's sausage rolls, bread ,pastries etc. xx Sheila 😋😋

in reply to garshe

My daughter has worked for Gregg's for 18 years now, and she would not touch one of their cakes with a bargepole. If you are on a zero hours contract with Gregg's you have to work on different shifts, as sometimes my daughter has to leave her house at 5.am in a morning. At the other end of the scale, she will have to work until 7.pm in the evenings, plus an hours travel back home. I can't stand their cakes either, as they have no inspiration with ideas for then. One year, my daughter brought me some mince pies from Greggs, and the pastry was so hard that if you threw the pie against a wall there would be little damage to it! Complete lack of inspiration and baking knowledge. Not much compassion shown towards their employees either, as my daughter had major surgery in January of this year, and the only time that she was allowed off work was for two weeks, before having to lift heavy bread and cake trays. Think twice, before thinking Greggs. 😒🎂😒

in reply to

They were better years ago when they were a bakery where they sold actual loaves which they don't now and nowadays they are more like a fast food joint

I was answering catgirl and wishing her luck !!!! Not interested in bad mouthing sorry. Good luck Catgirl. X Sheila.

in reply to garshe

I was not 'bad mouthing,' just telling the truth. Why are you so harsh with me? I hear all of you giving out sympathy to the same people, time after time. Try living with someone who suffers from bi-polar disorder, and the crisis that I am going through now. I can see, that pity is for the select few. Not that I want pity, just a little understanding. I have spoken to Catgirl, and she has agreed with me, and I do wish her all of the very best, as I wish you.

I'm sorry for your problems but you replied to me when I was wishing Catgirl good luck on her job interview.. Sheila.

in reply to garshe

It's alright Sheila, it was the fact that you mentioned Gregg's products. I shouldn't have butted in because I know that you said that you liked their products. However, I have wished Catgirl all of the best because I have grandchildren who are looking for jobs. I apologise.

You dont have to apologise to me no offence taken. We all have a lot of concerns at the moment .hope you are OK x Sheila

Went to my doctor and I'm sitting next to my doggo, my best friend, watching FRIENDS's.

I went to a local café today and sat in their garden. Now, am I being over cautious in my thinking, please tell me? There were three people at another table near me - a father and his adult daughter and a lady (unrelated to them,) who I happen to know a little. What bothered me was that the man wanted the lady to try his food and instead of her using her fork to take a piece to try, he just let her eat from his fork. Have they not heard of coronavirus?! Or am being too harsh? I am not obsessive about it, but this seemed to me like a daft risk to take.

🙄🌸

I cleared some things so I can make work spaces sanitary for the handyman who is coming. He is careful, as he has a frail grandparent, but by removing items and using soap, bleach, and water, I'll have the areas he has to be in as safe as possible, and also easy to resanitize once he goes.

I also decided to stop using Twitter and Facebook and I can tell the difference already!

I had a drip, and then a noisy water leak from my hot water faucet in my bathroom sink. Since I didn't want a repairman in my house, because of COVID-19 I turned the hot water knob below the sink off 2 months ago. Well my luck, now the cold water faucet is now leaking in the bathroom sink. I know how to repair it myself, but the last time I went to the hardware store the line was ridiculous. I try to limit my excursions outside. So I completely understand everything you are doing to keep yourself, and your loved ones safe. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks. As it turns out, he didn't put on a mask when entering my house - and it is required here to protect people. I've had a bad couple days worrying about it. I SHOULD have asked him to. So now I have a note on my door to please mask up when entering my house as I'm the only person my elderly mother (in memory care) has to support her care. I'm lucky she has a great facility. I guess this is why I've been away from HU a couple of days... I get fearful as it is. The US response to Covid isn't working, and not wearing a mask is viewed as their right. I know politics is a no no here, but it scares me how many of my neighbors think this is fine.

So I'm renewing my commitment to avoiding them and to supporting my other vulnerable friends with phone calls, emails, and practical help.

Greetings: Please don't worry. I count on GOD to protect me, and I pray that same protection for you, your mom your loved ones, and then those neighbors, and strangers we may come in contact with when we do have to travel outside of our abodes. Putting the sign up is /was a great idea. We have to use wisdom in protecting ourselves. I believe God will do the rest. I pray everyday, and my simplest , and greatest prayer is the Serenity prayer.

Glad you got out Jennymary and got to the shops, it is much busier now. Good idea to try the bus for your training.

I've been out on the moors today with my daughters and my youngest daughter's girls.

It will be interesting to see how your bus trip goes. I took the dogs out. Did the chores. Phoned around the family. Catched up on a series I've been watching on Netflix. Got to go shopping tomorrow. Hope you are enjoying your evening. 😊🌼🌸

I think you're amazing Jenny. So determined to get on with things. It does take a bit of courage to get back to bus travel but I hope it goes fine for your training on Friday.

I've had almost a whole day on the phone, sorting out problems with my energy supply, my internet provider and my new vet, (as the old one has just announced out of the blue that it's closing!). I find that, regardless of the problems caused by the pandemic, customer service seems to be getting worse and worse and trying to communicate, almost impossible.

in reply to

Customer service wasn't brilliant even before the pandemic hit was it but it's gone from bad to worse lately!

You tell them you have an air conditioning problem and they keep talking about boilers! Someone cold calls from LFS - a firm you don't know to talk about another element of PPI and when asked what LFS stands for they say they don't know! If firms pay peanuts they get monkeys. Pity our taxes are going to overpaid monkeys at Wesminster.

Every day shielding is much the same. Today we had our beach walk and then came home. I trimmed my herb plants back and sorted some out for my friends charity plant stall. We had homemade chicken and garden vegetables soup for dinner.

With Greggs it's only part time but still it's experience and nothing to lose by trying.

in reply to

Whatever you do, do not eat any of their pastries, and watch out for the zero contracts. One blessing, is that you won't have to wear a mask whilst serving. Read below, to see what I have to say about Gregg's

in reply to

Their pastries aren't that nice I have found out for myself!

Small wash load winging its way to the tumble dryer today and we have a food delivery coming between 9 and 10 tonight.

Yesterday I did a 20 min walk round the terrace housing where I live, and ended up with a sore knee. I have arthritis in both knees, the left being worse than the right but I felt up to pushing the short walk a bit further yesterday and paid the price. 10 mins really is enough.

I had an appointment booked with a very local hairdresser on tuesday this week but couldn't face it and sent him a text to cancel. I'm very nervous about mingling, wont go in the corner shop either. Waiting to see what the update is from august the 1st....
