Went for a short hike in the high country today at about 6800’. Short because Old Ike was with us enjoying himself. Good birding and picnic.
There were lots of snakes in the water along with dragon flies and damsel flies.
The lakes were created by early cattle ranchers so the cattle could find water, then stocked with non-native fish that ate everything they could find so several years ago the biologists killed off the fish and the local critters moved back in. Tons of snakes, yellow-legged frogs, and insects of all kinds.
Nice walk.

Hi Dave, glad you had a lovely walk with Old Ike and a picnic, nothing like eating outdoors.
Also, thank you for the history of the lakes, how interesting, I'm not sure about the snakes though, I'm certainly not keen on them.
Hope you have another good day when your day starts.
