Plum, The Chicken

My wife found this chicken out in the woods by herself. We went and caught her and introduced her to our other hens.

They seem to be getting along ok.

It was warm here so the windows and doors were open. I came inside and found Plum in the house standing in the foot rest.

I think she might be house broken since she didn’t make a mess even though she had been inside for a good bit.

Friendly hen but she has to learn she has her own house.

I forgot who wanted a photo cause there are a lot of people here. But, there she is.

We are getting locked down again since our cases are going up in California. No indoor gatherings or activities. Colleges and some schools will be on line only again for the coming year.

At least the chickens have no worries other than what they think about. As our friend says: they are only smart enough to be chickens.

Plum is lovely and she even looks various shades of plum color so a very good name. It's been on the UK news about California shutting everything down again as cases spike. He in the UK it will be mandatory to wear mask's when shopping. I've been wearing them all along in enclosed spaces. I hope the spike you're currently having drops quickly. You and your family take care. 😊

I hope the cases go down also. We have been wearing masks and only doing a few required town trips and are well supplied here for a long while.

Take care also.

She's a pretty hen dave with good colours. Could it be that she was allowed to do that in her previous home I wonder.

Shame about the lockdown, I'm pretty sure it will be here again soon too. My husband has just come back from Tesco and said no members of staff are wearing masks the only person he saw wearing one was a shelf stocker and only two other shoppers were wearing them. Crazy!

It’s nuts not to wear a mask. Same here. Some wear them others don’t mostly along political lines.

What have we become?

Far too complacent and a hell of a lot are fooling themselves that they are completely immune! x

She's a really nice looking chook! You will have to explain the lockdown rules to her "no indoor gatherings"!.

Best of luck with the new lockdown, fingers crossed the spike retreats quickly and you regain your freedom soon xx

Good one. I am not sure she would listen though.

Gift from god

Keep safe Dave, love Plum’s plucky attitude 😉

Thanks for showing us Plum the Chicken daveh121. She seems to have settled in quite well from your account, and she's definitely making herself at home! 😀

Sorry you've been put back into lockdown again for a while, but if it's the safest thing, then of course it's sensible. 🙏

I agree, sensible. It doesn’t really bother us but it sure offends many others.

It was me that asked you to keep us posted Dave. As my family kept chickens and ducks I was worried Plum could be bullied by the other hens. My mind is put at rest now, knowing she's settling in and finding her position in the pecking order.

Thanks for the follow up and a photo of Plum.

😀

You are welcome. Plum is getting along well, doing runs around the dominant hen.

Chickens can be ruthless with new birds. So far all is well and Plum is becoming accepted.

Hope you had a good day.

Thank you Daveh. It's so reassuring you have the welfare of animals at heart just like me.

Keep us posted if you have the time.

She's a lovely chicken and they are such lovely creatures and I can see why you called her Plum, very fitting.

I'm sorry that you are getting locked down again and I hope it's short lived. I'm glad now that masks are going to be mandatory here in the UK in all shops and indoor spaces, it's something that is needed and it'll lessen the chance of it spreading again.

Yes, the masks are a good idea. Required in California although depending on one’s political affiliation some wear them or not.

I guess science is ignored in favor of politics here. Annoying.

At least Plum is having a good time, doing end runs around the dominate hen. Funny to see.

I agree they are a very good idea. I'll be honest I haven't been wearing mine in shops, I've just been very careful and avoiding people but I'm actually glad they are becoming mandatory as we'll all be the same.

Very annoying that science is ignored and also common sense as no-one can sneeze in your face wearing a mask and sanitising your hands keeps you safe so it's a win win.

I'm so glad Plum is happy, animals have feelings and it's so good to see that she's more than happy in her new home. :)
