I didn't get a shielding letter and assumed it was because my asthma was classed as moderate. I did shield though as I'm 77 and my daughter was happy to do all our shopping. I have been going out for walks as much as I could , and this week I decided to venture out to the local shops (wearing a mask). Imagine my surprise this morning to receive a letter advising me to shield as I have been identified as at serious risk if I catch the virus. The only reason I can think of is that I've had six short courses of prednisolone this year. Has anyone else had a letter so late?

How bizarre, it certainly is a bit late.
My son and I both had shielding letters in March and recently we have received letters to say that as of August 1st we can mix with others outdoors, social distancing and can go back to work on August 1st too.
It clarified that by saying if you were receiving sick pay due to shielding it would no longer be paid after July 31st.
Seems daft to me, you are shielding at 11.55pm July 31st but at 00.05 August 1st you are safe !
I imagine like us you will be making your own mind up about where and when you are safe.

Could I just ask was it from your local council?i had one from the council which I thought was strange
My daughter got one at the end of April for her youngest who has JIA (Juvenile idiopathic Arthritis) and that letter was over a month late. We've seen our granddaughter now.

I'm pleased for you to have seen your granddaughter, hope she's OK. The trouble for me is that I've had visits in the garden from members of my family for weeks and now I'm being told I shouldn't, at least before 1st August. I suppose they're covering their backs. Well I have a hairdresser's appointment next Wednesday and she's going to treat me as shielding anyway, so I'm going to go.

Thank you and she's doing really well on the medication, it's amazing how far she's come. I honestly don't think it'll hurt seeing people in the garden, the main thing is to leave the space between you. I agree in that they are covering their backs. That's brilliant, enjoy having your hair done.
