What's anyone done today

Well today I've had one of those days where I've got nothing to show for what I've done. I did my Zoom reading group this morning, and I did a bit of reading which I haven't done for a few weeks, Tuesday I'd booked an Iceland shop to come between 3-5.00pm, as I'm in a first floor flat, I wil always look out when I've got a food delivery coming, so I started looking out just after 3.00, he arrived just after 5. 00, but I had received a text saying he was running late, so I've managed to get my frozen stuff put away, I'll sort the dry stuff tomorrow.

Yesterday I had an unexpected phone call and today I had another one, from the support group set up by the council, I think, to help those shielding, I said I didn't get a letter until April only to be told that some letters are still being sent out. If these things run in threes I wonder who my unexpected phone call tomorrow will be from

I applied for 6 jobs today, went for my daily walk in the park and did 7 miles which I was pleased with, went on future learn which I enjoyed and started a new book called truly madly guilty by Lianne Moriarty which I am enjoying some far.

Good news the ice cream van is now back at the local park but I didn't buy an ice cream today because I was having lunch after my walk as not to spoil my lunch.

Fingers crossed you'll get some interviews from the jobs you've applied for today

Good luck with the applications

Thanks. Been busy this morning as well doing washing and applied for a couple more jobs I was interested in, carried on with my book and then went for a 4 mile walk over lunchtime which I enjoyed as it breaks the day up nicely.

A productive day then

May I ask you to say more about a Zoom reading group? How do I find one? It might be just my cup of tea. :-D

Hi Bella_Figura, I go to a Shared Reading group in my local library, currently they're closed. A few weeks ago I had a call from the lady who runs it saying it was being set up on Zoom, so we're using that and still meeting once a week. Shared Reading is run by an organisation called The Reader, in my group the lady who runs it comes along either with a chapter from a long book or a short stand alone story, she also brings a poem which complements the story, generally she'll start reading and when she's a about 3 1/4 down the first page she'll stop and we have a discussion on what we think about what we've heard, why doesn't this character like that one etc. If you're in the UK my advice would be to Google The reader/shared reading and see if there's a group in your area, I expect there's a contact us you could use.

Zoom is an app that I use, which enables us to be in our homes but see each other and have a chat if we have a few minutes spare

Let me know how you get on, good luck x

That sounds an interesting group at library glad it's keeping up on zoom

β€’ in reply toJennymary

I am indeed in the UK. I think I'll do a little exploration. I bet the Zoom meetings have made all the difference during lockdown. I know the Zoom meditations I do every day are absolutely key. You see the same faces every day and it keeps you on an even keel. :-D

Jennymary - It seems they've been doing shared reading every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime at 1300 BST on their Facebook pages... I've messaged them and asked if it's continuing indefinitely. Hopefully they will get back to me some time on Monday if they can.

Would you like to make a post about this on Reading Rabbits for June? Seems like the perfect place to post to me! I'd be quite happy to do that after they get back to me, but it was you who mentioned this first, so you might prefer to make a post in that thread yourself? It really should be shared. Many people may be missing reading groups!

We all have 'slow' days particularly at times like this. Keep smiling and start again tomorrow. Perhaps the third telephone call will be a happy surprise. Stay positive.

Hi Jennymary, it doesn't hurt to have days where you don't do much. I'm glad you got your delivery from Iceland.

That's lovely getting the phone call, glad they're looking out for you. My daughter didn't get her shielding letter for her daughter until April.

I was on the computer for a fair while this morning, phoned my daughter, went out for a short walk with hubby and then back on the computer.

Stay safe and well.

Alicia🌈😊🌷

Hi Jennymary. Despite not having anything to actually show what you did today, it's been a good day from the sounds of it! I'm glad you're still having your reading group meetings via Zoom and it's always good to relax with a book. What are you reading just now?

And then shopping to put away! That always seems to be time consuming!

My husband shopped for me this morning which always results in a few surprises! But mostly he does a good job. And then all the wiping and putting away.

I did my daily email to my friend in Bath. We see each other very seldom these days, but without fail, unless something's really wrong, we email every single day. Sometimes there's not much to tell, but we always find some topic of interest!

Well, let's see if you get that next unexpected phone call tomorrow! 😊

Hi Callendersgal, with Shared Reading the lady who runs the group starts reading the story, she'll read about 3 1/4 of the first page then we stop and discuss, then she'll ask if anyone wants to read a bit for the group, so that was the reading I did, but I've also got a book on my tablet, it's a Mary Higgins Clark thriller, for me the best thing about lockdown is that my eye doesn't get really dry like it usually does, despite using the drops regularly, so I'm doing a, lot more reading now

Hi Jennymary ,

I’m glad you had a good time with your Zoom book group today. It’s also good news that you got your food you ordered.

My day was really busy today. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner, did messages on and off HU, text with some people, got a few Video Chat calls, listened to music on the radio, replies and postings and watched TV. I will do some reading before bedtime and also do the word scramble puzzles for the next morning.

Good night, Jenny. Stay safe and healthy.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Well I hope it's a nice surprise phone call you get tomorrow. Today my four year old granddaughter face timed me sobbing her heart out, inconsolable, saying between sobs she missed her friends and family. They are very resilient kids but I was concern the deep effect this is starting to have on her. I'm sure kids her age must be feeling similar stresses. You don't expect four year olds to be stressed about what's going on in the world. Later on in the day, I went to buy her a pirate outfit, some sweets and a fluffy dog handbag. I called at my daughters, I didn't go in, just stayed at the front door. I chatted with my granddaughter and tried to tell her things will be OK. The treat's brought a smile to her face and cheered her up and she was so glad to see me. I'll be glad when she can come and stay over night like she use too. 😊🌼

I know what you mean. My great-grandson went to school again for the first time on Monday and he wasn’t happy! He just wants everything to be back to normal!

Yesterday here in Wales they said on the news that schools are reopening on 29 June but it won't be like it was before all this kicked off though.

At Arlo’s school, they have the children in pods and they work, play and eat within those pods.

That's it when they are four they don't understand why everything changed overnight without any kind of warning.

No, that is right, I felt very sorry for her. She is more herself today, thankfully. πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

I think we all get days when we feel fed up no matter how young or old you are!

I admit when this first started I was frightened and also annoyed over the things getting cancelled hand over fist at short notice and for your granddaughter things that seem trivial to adults aren't trivial to children and feel like the end of the world for them.

With us we had decided to save ourselves the upset and not bother with planning anything else for a while but with a four year old they don't have the experience and choices that us adults do.

I find that a good cry does me good and I'm glad she's feeling better now.

Hi Jenny. I made a treasure map for a fundraising event, sowed some carrot seeds, did an hour line dancing, had several telephone conversations and zoomed my brother. x

i start each day with good intentions which quickly evaporate, and i was never like this until the coronvirus hit. I was obsessively houseproud but now i look at the dust and forget about it.

Every time I speak to a friend he says I'm just tidying up I told him other day he's putting me to shame!!!! He's the hubby of my friend that died 4 weeks ago so I think it's helping him, I think no ones coming why bother. Terrible I know

I've got absolutely nothing to show for what I did except a bit of space upstairs. We went out. Twice (we are actually shielding). Once to the skip in a nearby town, and it was extremely well organised. We had an appointment but got in a few minutes earlier. We recycled a king-sized blow-up bed that really cannot be used any more along with glass and all the little things like ink cartridges, batteries and lightbulbs. We had an unexpected hospital appointment as well but as we had no bread to make sandwiches, we went home after the skip, had a leisurely lunch and then went up to the Eye Clinic. The staff were much better organised than usual and were very pleased with the pressure in my partner's eyes. I got to catch up on some sleep in the car while he was in there but he was out in record time. It seems that while we are in this crisis people are learning how to be more efficient with the use of time. I was planning to do a sight-seeing tour but that didn't happen due to coming home for lunch. Wednesday we had our chimney swept, so a visitor to the house for the first time.

It's a bit late just getting letter now and allowed out with 1 person now. Glad you got call though. I had one of those days too yesterday but doesn't harm occasionally......does it? LOL. Hope today's phone call a nice surprise. Iceland don't do deliveries around here, Morrison's only started 2 or 3 years ago. Archie and I got wet this morning(fri) on walk as soon as.it.started raining he turned back and i could hardly keep up with him!!!!
