Back yard wildlife

I went out this morning to transplant some potatoes I'd sprouted in the new garden (currently has squash and pumpkin transplants!).

Under the blooming lilac tree on the lawn was a mule dear doe and her "today born" fawn about the size of a dog, with a ton of little white spots! Was also scolded by a mama magpie and her short tailed kid in the front yard.

That's really sweet Wallowa, particularly the deer with her new fawn. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful! I can imagine the scolding. Lucky you. Never saw a real magpie - my loss. Only Heckle and Jeckle.

You have lilac trees? I remember growing up at a local park they had a Lilac Sunday! I can almost smell that wonderful fragrance now! I haven’t seen any around where I live now. Come to think of it not much grows around here like the Lilacs that are native to this region. Rather sad actually!

in reply to Midnight-Blue

yes, both the lavender lilacs and the old fashioned purple ones. Love them!

How lucky to have these in your garden, particularly at this time when we can't get out and about. Not sure about the magpie though, not keen on them - one for sorrow, two for joy? Thanks for sharing.

Fabulous. I would never need to go out again if I had that wildlife in the garden. You are very fortunate. x

What a wonderful find Wallowa! And a well told account as well as your pretty sketch! It all quite transported me to a lovely peaceful country location for a few moments! 🙏😊

How lovely. Nothing on four legs can get into our rural garden as we have hens and wire fences, but after more than 30 years living here, for the first time, two grouse came into the garden. They are not supposed to be here in Essex/Suffolk, though we get the odd pheasant from time to time. It was great to see them poking around. The hens didn't notice them. LOL.
