It's Saturday!

So today is Saturday.

Who would have known?

One day blends into the next,

they all seem the same.

Therefore I just don't understand

how the weekends can feel so much worse!

This reminds me of my first wife... she would occasionally exclaim something like:

"It's half past three" - and I would respond with:

"It usually is at this time of day."

I'm sorry to have reminded you of your first wife. I am aware the weekend occurs every week but being under 'house arrest' (as a friend calls it) every day is the same.

I think the weekends feel worse to me because I am used to doing recreational stuff with friends and family, eg, going to an amusement park, visiting a museum, going to the symphony. Weekdays are work, some exercise and a few hobbies at home. But weekends are much more time out with friends. So, the weekends are worse for me.

This weekend my best friend and I are planning a ‘video vacation” which we’ll do from our homes next weekend. We’re going to select the country. Then we’ll look for travel programs (TV) for that country. We’ll look for cooking shows from that country. We’ll identify movies filmed in that country. We’ll identify a novel set in that country. Then we’ll both get all this stuff together including what we’ll need to cook some recipes from the cooking show.

We’ll read the book on Wednesday and Thursday. We’ll meet via zoom Wednesday evening to visit about the book and our upcoming 3-day video trip. Then our 3-day video vacation will begin on Friday. It will run through our 3-day Memorial Day Weekend. (This is next weekend in the USA.) we’ll connect with one another several times during the weekend, eg, eat out meals together via zoom, watch a few movies at the same time texting as we watch or using zoom... Etc

That sounds like fun. Will you be planning a real visit to any of the places eventually?

Hopefully! I was able to visit Scotland in Late September of 2016. I really enjoyed that trip. My mother’s side of the family has ties to Scotland, the McNabs. I was able to find the mcNab clan while there. I’d love to go to Italy, France, and Germany. We may target Germany and include symphonic mysic from Germany in our weekend. Or if we choose Italy we really should include various opera singers from Italy, etc.

I can highly recommend Germany as we lived there for nine years. It was a while ago,

though. We were there when the wall came down. Since returning to the UK we have been back on a number of occasions for the Christmas Markets which are legendary. You must include them in your info. if Germany is 'your' country for the project. Best wishes, Patsy

Actually I have settled on Germany. My neighbor literally walked out of Germany with her siblings and mother as the nazi’s took over. She has plenty of authentic German recipes I can try to cook following her guidance.

My grandfather was from Germany. This is on my father’s side of the family. So if I’m able to get to Germany I’d love to trace our family history on my father’s side. We don’t know much about my grandfather’s family. So I think the other thing I’ll do while in stay at home orders will be to try to trace my grandfather’s history to learn more about his family. I imagine I must have some distant relatives in Germany.

So Hermany it is🐶 And I’ll add tracing my grandfather’s family history to my summer activities.

I get times myself where I feel really fed up just because it's the weekend as I'm used to being busy and active on weekend days and at present those things aren't available so I have a look at things that haven't been cancelled and try some of those out instead to get rid of the feeling of fed upness when it strikes!

I know exactly what you mean but restricted to being indoors means there is not a lot we can do. We used to spend weekends driving off to visit friends or family scattered throughout the uk. It's all so quiet now. I can't wait to plan the next break/holiday but am

fearful of booking anything as we could be in until Christmas!

in reply to Patsy10

We decided to save ourselves the upset and not book anything for the foreseeable future and concentrate on things that aren't cancelled for now!

It is very strange but there is no logical explanation. Like you we are both retired, it's very odd indeed.

We are also retired so everyday is much the same. Weekends though seem so much worse when we are confined to the home, even if it is a nice home. Keep smiling.

It’s hard to know when weekends get here anymore.

We have our food delivery booked for every Saturday which means they bring our newspapers, that is the only thing that makes it different from the rest of the week.

Sad I know.

A clever verse Patsy10. And it's oh so true!😀

Thanks. I had not thought of it as a verse, I just wrote it out and then thought I would break it into separate lines for more impact. You're very kind.
