I 'Fixed' my Clock....

Dear All,

The Wall Clock, in my Living Room, the one from a friend- who has been unwell recently- 'Packed Up', the other day. So, armed only with WD40, a 'cotton bud' and a small screwdriver..... I Fixed it😀. Basically I opened, the cover, and Gently cleaned/ lubricated the spindle. It looks, far better too, I cleaned the glass and the 'body', before putting it back up.

I know that this, might very well, sound 'Silly' but I Like that clock and, it reminds me of my Friend- who I know longer see. Has anyone else 'fixed/ repaired' anything?

Hi AndrewT, Well that was a really worthwhile way to pass some time (literally), during lockdown. Just goes to show that, if we have a little confidence and a few basic tools, we can repair more than we think we can. And maybe it's time now to repair more and replace less. That was a fantastic result. Alas my DIY skills didn't work out quite so well. I have a small fan beside by bed as my apartment is ridiculously hot (great in winter, but beginning to be hellish again now). Its blades became very dusty and would you believe there was no way provided to open up the casing to clean them? I set about trying to pry off the front grille only to have it fly off across the room and it's now held in place with duct tape! Oh well, can't win them all! 😀

They don't make things like they used to, time was you could repair most things but now the manufacturers just want you to buy new all the time. Also appliances don't seem last as long. I'm all for make do and mend. Showing my age 😄

I fixed the loft hatch in the spare bedroom as I've been decorating it the past few days. I do try and give things a go if I can. x

Hi AndrewT,

It does give a sense of achievement when we’ve fixed something especially if it has sentimental value. Wishing your friend well.

I'm glad you managed to repair your clock especially as it reminds you of your friends who is unwell. WD40 has many great uses. There is something very satisfying about mending this. Even more so in your case where it has sentimental value 🙂

Dear Mydexter,

My clock was NOT a 'Real' clock, just an Electric one- double 'A' battery sort. So basically it was 'Just' a Lubrication job- really, 'around', the spindle. Nevertheless it DID get, my clock, working again.

My Trickiest repair, was the Washing Line assembly, in the garden of my Mother's Bungalow. I essentially had to replace a broken Rivet with a, similar Sized Bolt. However, because of the Vertical position, I had to Glue a nut on the end. Did this Work? Yes Very well indeed, it was in fact still 'in place', when my Mother sold the Bungalow..... about fifteen years later.

I, quite enjoy, 'intriguing' repairs like that. (But NO, I'm afraid, you can't send me all 95,000 panels, from your 'old' shed!)

Stay Well everyone.

No but yesterday in the post I received an old photo from a friend which showed my late adopted son and a friend who is waiting for a bed in a hospice so it’s very special to me

Yes - I have fixed many things - but the warmer weather helps with peripheral cyanosis (blue foot disease).
