Quotation for Saturday 4th April 2020

Good morning everyone,

Earlier on today I was thinking about how much patience we have all had to try to learn from the outset of this crisis.

First over the shortages caused by panic buying.

Then a whole new way of shopping, waiting in often long queues to enter supermarkets.

When trying to access online services, there are further inevitable long queues when needing to contact someone, or to get slots for online grocery deliveries.

Finally the big elephant that's in everyone's room. "When will all of this end".

Impatience happens when we can't control a situation. Patience comes when we accept we can't have that control and actively agree to wait in the present moment, instead of chasing after an instant solution.

It's a fast-paced world overall, so I count myself lucky to have lived for a long time in the Caribbean, where I learned the real art of patience. People live a long time in the Caribbean. And they have far much patience too. There's probably a connection.

I learned my patience there, standing in places like banks where the game of cricket being shown on the TVs provided, might get as much attention from the teller, as you. I could either fight it, and end up frustrated, because nothing would change just for me, or accept that I needed to mould myself around a whole different way of thinking. You could always spot a holiday-maker at the bank or in restaurants, trying to dance a tango when the rest of the population was doing a waltz.

Anyway, with all of that in mind, here's my quotation today.

“Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” Anonymous

Hope that helps, and I hope you all enjoy today. ☀️

Its lovely out isn't it this morning? I have been enjoying a good book this morning which is rare for me to do nowadays!

That's it though. Frustration and anger over having to wait don't solve anything and make problems worse!

A couple of weeks back I was getting extremely fed up over job hunting which I am still doing now even in spite of what's gone on and had been tipped over the edge when I was due for a 12pm interview and was still waiting at 12.20 and had felt so fed up I had gone home!

Perhaps I should have waited longer but I acted on what I felt was the right thing to have done at the time!

Thank you for the reminder of the virtue of patience

As a Muslim one of our beliefs is to have patience in times of adversity

Being patient in times of upheaval is viewed as a test of faith

Also patience in the end brings its own rewards

Also there is another saying that following hardship is ease

It is extremely hard to have patience in a time of uncertainty

But what choice do we have

I studied law twenty years ago and did not obtain the practical training

Since I lost my Father I am trying to study Wills and Probate and requalify

Law is a very elitist profession and incredibly competitive

But now I can see how the world is shaping and after so many years of rejection I can see there is a purpose to being patience whilst coping with rejection

It is very emotive for me to say that if we survive this crisis, may be we will face a world less elitist and more of a classless society which would be able to look beyond our age, race and educational background

What I am trying to say may be this terrible virus will teach us to give others a chance a to break down walls and barriers which have held us back

Patience is a virtue I try very hard to maintain. Not because I am inpatient but because sometimes I want things done for other people to ease any burdens they have. We all must try our hardest to practice this very difficult emotion of patience. ☺☺

That's an excellent post Hidden and what an experience to have lived in the Caribbean.

I've got used to the queues at the supermarkets now and it doesn't phase me anymore, we can't change it so why worry.

Hope you've had a good day.

Alicia😊☀️

I have Alicia, and I hope you have too. Yes, the Caribbean was lovely. I still miss it there and consider it my other home.
