Pins and needles

Hey guys, I haven't brought this up before as I thought it was nothing really to worry about, I have had pins and needles in my left arm and more so the left hand little finger and the next finger, this hasn't gone away for about 12 weeks now and then last week the same in my right hand finger tips, this has since gone and was only for a couple of days.. I had tried to contact the GP however the next appointment was 3 weeks away and then this was cancelled due to the Covid-19 kicking in and taking over. I don't particularly want to call 111 I would rather let more urgent calls go first and am alive.

Does anyone have any clue what this may be, I have been borderline diabetic but was not confirmed, I tried to get my standard bloods done due to other issues (mens health) but this was cancelled as well.

Not a lot to go on but if anyone has any ideas, would appreciate these and thank you in advance for any advice

Stay safe, Thank you

Mark

Hi, there, no one will be able to advise you as it is something that will need proper medical assessment. This type of symptom could be down to many reasons. So you do really need to get an appointment. Or ring 111, they will advise you on what steps to take. They sometimes get a doctor to phone you, so if you spoke to a medical professional, you might have more of an idea. What you shouldn't do, is ignore it. xx

There are several things that come to mind with the symptoms you are having but only proper investigation will prove if you have them.

If the pins n needles increase in intensity or area then I feel you should get a gp appointment. Even a phone app to get the ball rolling with blood tests for example.

It equally could be something fairly simple like a trapped nerve or tight muscle from stress.

For this reason no one can really advise you other than to go ahead and make an appointment. You can easily cancel it if your problem resolves and if it doesn't three weeks is not a very long time ahead.

Best wishes

Ellie

Hi Mark, I don’t want to alarm you, but this could be a stroke.

I say this because my husband had a similar thing with his foot. We pondered what it could be, but didn’t think of stoke, because there was no paralysis, he had full movement, but with altered sensation when he put his weight on it. Luckily we managed to get an appointment with the GP, who sent him immediately to hospital.

However, he was to late to get the injection to minimise the effects. ( It is a three hour window from onset.) It was only his left leg that was affected.

.

The advertising campaign can be a bit misleading. I forget how it goes, face, speech, arms something like that.

We now know that any lasting numbness or tingling/pins and needles that don’t go away quickly need to be checked out.

We have been back to the hospital with similar symptoms which was nothing more than a trapped nerve. The staff were very good and he was seen immediately. Home again in a couple of hours.

There is also a thing called a TIA. Transient Ischemic Attack. A so called mini stroke. When this happens the symptoms wear off in time, but it can be a warning of another to follow.

Paramedics can assess for stroke, so don’t think it is always done by a stay in hospital.

Just so you are aware.

I would phone GP practice for a call back from GP first thing in the morning and stay on line till you get through.

Hi mascotty02,

Unfortunately I have to agree with bobbybobb. Only a medical professional can diagnose you. I would call your GP surgery for advice on whether you should see someone right away, or whether it can wait, or you can have some advice in a telephone consultation. You are obviously worrying about this and although coronavirus is taking up a lot of doctors' time and energy, they are still dealing with all sorts of other medical issues, so do please get some advice. It will at least set your mind more at rest. Take care.

Hi,

Twice this week I have heard doctors on TV and Radio 4 urging people to contact to call 111 if they have health issues, not just for the virus. Apparently people are reluctant to seek help because they don't want to be a bother at this manic time or they are wary of being admitted to hospital, and this is having consequences.

Please make the call. Let us know how you get on.

Hi,

This is how I am am feeling, not only this I am one of the lucky ones who is also managing to work from home but if my bosses hear that I have contacted the hospital am also worried that they they may furlough me, and am worried that if they do then I will not be able to pay my bills, they only just cover my DD's now

Thanks for that its appreciated
