I have found this site to be invaluable given the constraints of the Lock Down
I was just watching John Barnes the world class footballer who has produced Doctors and a Banker as his children
I find this all the more impressive as they have chosen to follow their own rewarding and full filling career despite having the immeasurable wealth of a Footballing legend for a Father
Also his own Mother based in Jamaica studied law at the age of 68 snd started practising as. Barrister at the age of 71
She is 81 snd is still working
I find this to be very admirable that they are not starry eyes or dependent on the celebrity lifestyle but achievers in their own right
The motto of John Barnes Mother should be synonymous with the book in pursuit of happiness by which the actor Will Smith told his son in the film Never let anyone tell you what you cannot do

Great post Roukaya and so inspiring. I never knew that about John Barnes's mother, how fantastic but I really believe things like this are achievable all the time. Will Smith, what wise words, something I also believe. So, you need to get stuck into your studies and you will soon be flying. xxx
Yes I saw him twice on tv yesterday, The Chase Celebrity and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, but I was most inspired by your story of his Mother. I am also 68 and had thought after my brain tumour was removed which forced my retirement from fostering that I was on the scrap heap, no longer good with figures, despite having degrees, I wouldn’t have the concentration to retrain but think when this current crisis is over I may look into getting a job to keep me involved with the world
This is interesting to know particularly because I've always thought John Barnes to be a modest man him self, not really one for chasing publicity and quietly doing his bit for local charities, I have so much respect for him xx
As I have seen he runs his own charity to build and run schools in Jamaica to give those suffering from poverty the chance to better themselves through education
He is a world class footballer from Jamaica originally. He set up a charity by which he raises funds to build and run schools,
Also his children great successes in his own right
I think we can all relate to the post I wrote
I studied law twenty years ago but did not succeed in becoming a solicitor
I am now fifty and despite studying for the Diploma in Wills and Probate I am still trying to pass
Many I know have laughed and insulted me for still trying at fifty but I have been unsuccessful due to personal issues as well as mental health issues
I think we should all realise that given the new world which is emerging as a result of Covid 19 if we given the chance to live turn we should really embrace life and follow through what we love to do
D'you know the only thing that you have to do is be you! Anyone who wants to laugh at you for that can laugh but they are on the outside looking in, you're not obliged to prove anything to anyone, just be what you who you want to be xx
My aim of becoming a Wills and Probate Practitioner stems from my own personal experience
It is a passion that comes from the heart despite the marginal failures and attempts to find a work experience placement as a legal clerk in Wills and Probate
Thank you for your kind words
