There is the 'Stupid Tree' and then This....

Dear All - make you smile😄,

Earlier this evening I defrosted a Bolognaise a good meal and, quite quick, to prepare. Afterwards I made some coffee and I used some 'spare' water to wash off the containers....as I did so I splashed some 'Wow that's HOT', I thought.... this was the water I had just boiled🙄.

It MUST be this 'Isolation'.... Must Be!

Ouch! Please take care AndrewT! But I think it is easier to do daft things as we all try to get used to our new enforced way of life. I've found myself making coffee with water I've thought I've boiled and haven't! And I've asked my husband if he would like a cuppa, and half an hour later he's asked where it is, and I've totally forgotten to make it!

So you do have company!🤣

I am not familiar with the Stupid Tree, which does sound entertaining however there is this: the tree that owns itself, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tre...

Maybe this helps for the ouch of hot water.

Dear daveh121,

The English Phrase, regarding The Stupid Tree, merely refers to an 'Act Of Stupidity'- in a rather 'jovial' way. The extension, to this idea, is 'I Fell Out The Stupid Tree, And Hit Every Branch Going Down'. A, not so pleasant, phrase is 'She fell Out the Ugly Tree' in reference to, normally speaking, a female- who is 'Not Exactly Blessed', with the best of Looks.

Interesting story, regarding 'The Tree That Owns Itself'- do you believe this Story, or is it- again, what we would call, 'A Load Of Bunkum'.

The is a story, from Wales- England's neighbour (nieghbor) to the West- regarding, the village of Beddgellet (the two d's pronounced as the English th). The story goes that the Landowner owned a Dog, called Beddgellet (I'm Not 100% on the spelling here). The Landowner came home, to find his baby slaughtered, and Beddgellet 'coved in blood'. In a fit of Rage, he 'Slew' the animal.... Only to find, in the adjoining room, an enormous Wolf. Realising his 'Tragic' mistake, the Landowner, had the dog Laid To Rest in a special grave- with the story engraved above. The grave does exist, I've seen it, the Story....Well it could be just that, a Story.

Perhaps we could Swop 'Stories', and Phrases, especially if you know the origins- I do for, a lot of, English ones. A lot, of 'ours' come from the Seafaring Days, I imagine 'Yours' come from the Wars (Independence against us and your Civil War).

Thank you for the Interesting story deveh121, Very Best Wishes

Thanks for the explanation. It’s a great phrase. And for the Beddgellet story.

I don’t really know for sure about the tree owning itself. The deeds are on record apparently.

England sure does seem to have a lot of sayings and stories. Lots of characters. Maybe more then the US. The stories behind them are entertaining.

I’ll be looking forward to more.

Have fun.

My son was told this story in his early classes at school and we all felt heartbroken about the loyal dog. We live in Johannesburg in South Africa. It's clearly a legend but don't know its origin. Take care and keep safe.

If it makes you feel better, last weekend I decided to make pancakes for my bf and I. The recipe called for 1 tablespoon of oil. I grabbed the olive oil not noticing it was infused with garlic. I thought the pancakes tasted different and only later I realized why. Garlic flavored pancakes...hmmmm...

Hi

I think I've told you some of this one. I out what I thought was oil on some roast potatoes. Any, after a few minutes my hubby said there's a funny smell, git the roasters out. I said I definitely out oil on them, look!! I suddenly noticed the bottle I'd used was whisky!!! Oh dear, spuds were thrown away. My sons and their girlfriends plus hubby just buried their heads one of them saying, problem is, it doesn't surprise me!! I said it's fibro fog to which my sons said, no, you've always been like this , Mum😂😊
