The countries that have got on top of this thing all have made wearing a face mask when around others to be de Figueroa even stylish.
The mask protects you from my viral droplets and it protects me from yours.
It is a gesture of respect, it tells you I am taking this seriously and will maintain safe social distance. Plus I am an old dude, my walking stick will enforce social distancing if necessary.
Anf]d the safety goggles I’m wearing over my eyeglasses? Keeps my own damn fingers out of my own damn eyes.

No it was just random sewing with scissors and a black cotton tee shirt. A cowboy bandit bandana is as good, because the key point is to send a clear message to others: I’m taking this seriously, please help maintain social distance.
I should add that there is a deep study somewhere (I read way too much news) evaluating different materials for homemade masks. On balance, and especially considering the message it sends, the advice was two layers of tee-shirt or pillowcase cotton. Tea-towels filter better but it’s too hard to breathe, you won’t wear it. Wash it every day.
Try using a cotton bandana. If you maintain distance, the mask is more about containing your own droplets and mostly about signaling others to maintain social distance.
