Many Thanks Celtic

Hi Steve,

Well done. I had a bone scan early. Not long after beginning pred. The results were good but now, 19 months later, I wonder what shape they're in. It will be interesting to hear the answer when I ask for another.

Steveives,

You shouldn't have had to nag your GP to get the scan done. Guidelines state that people should have dexa scan at start of steroid treatment, so that a baseline can be established. The first dexa would probably determine frequency of further scans. I had my scan within 6 weeks or so of starting preds. Came as a big shock that I have osteopenia, so now take the calcichew forte & vit D. I will have another scan a year after the first. Steroids do cause us to lose calcium, so it is very important to keep a check on bone health.

Good luck with the scan results,

Margaret

Hi everyone, Well done Steve on getting a scan sorted out. I have been on preds. for 3 years now and have not been offered calcium or scan. I am seeing my Rheumy next week should I mention this to him as I am starting to get a bit concerned.

Good luck Steve.

Michelle.

I have been on preds since last October and have had a dexa scan after taking Alendronic Acid which made me ill but my scan revealed strong healthy bones so AA stopped and advised to have another scan in 2013 which I have to remember to ask for!!!!! with memory and fuzzy heads I told my daughter in law to remind me lol

Good luck with the scan - hope the results are good.
