cod liver oil

Now you have posted you can see past posts and discussions about it.
They used to dish out senna and other laxatives to children in the past - so that doesn't mean childhood habits were always good for us!!
If you take multiple supplements it is very easy to overdose on certain nutrients and vit A is one of them - lots in CLO!!
I remember when I was a kid we used to have malt with olive oil along with senna plus Vick being spread all over us. They say that the older generation is going to have a longer life span than the young ones coming up, so perhaps it did all help!!
More likely that we walked, ran or biked everywhere and generally had a lot more exercise and a lot less fast food outlets..
That is true. I remember we used to go out in the mornings with sandwiches and come home when it got dark. I could only have been 7 years old.
And the nearest to UPFs we got was that white bread and marg for the sannies!!!!
Margarine was so disgusting.
The local vicar's wife used to make white bread and marg tomato sarnies for the annual day trip to the seaside, they were wonderful ....
Mmmmm, I loved tomato sarnies, so did my brother. He could eat a whole plate full of them. If the tomatoes were home grown even better.
Yep -absolutely..
Just across the road from my house, we had a village playing field with a football pitch which was only used in anger on a Sunday morning so “ours” for the rest of the week. Also swings and seesaw. Just the other side of it, a small copse between 2 fields -one with cattle the other arable. Spend all day making dens and just having fun…
Yes I too was fed it as a kid along with malt extract. I remember the taste well.
Not read anything regarding immune system or cortisol levels. I do know a longitudinal study by Bristol university, which I am part of, found sufficient omega 3 in pregnancy is important for eye development and cognitive development in the foetus. I take algae supplements now in the hope it keeps my brain functioning!!! (I no longer eat fish)
CLO might have some value to those who are trying to follow an anti inflammatory diet. It is rich in Vitamin D and Omega 3. As has been pointed out, it also has a lot of vitamin A in it, so you might need to be careful with other sources of Vitamin A in your diet. But a nice lunch of mackerel or sardines with a good green leafy salad might do you as much good as a dollop of cod liver oil. Though too much oily fish gets a bad press nowadays due to the junk dumped in the sea by careless humans.
My mother once asked our family doctor if she needed to give us a tonic when we were small. His answer was that the best tonic was to let us outdoors and run around in the fresh air.
