wondering if anyone can help me. I have recently been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica PMR

I have been put on 10gm of steroids a day

It has relieved a lot of the pain. ( but still in pain and have tingles all over my body)

Any idea what this could be ?

Thanking you

Hi and welcome,

if you were started at 10mg would say that’s not enough, usual advice is between “lowest effective dose between 12.5mg and 25mg”. Most common starting dose is 15mg - do you know why you were given 10mg?

Have a read through this -and do be aware just because you are on the steroids (even when at correct dose) you haven’t returned to normal.

A bit more background might help us to give better advice, but you will probably need to get back to you doctor and discuss dose.

Hi and welcome!

A starting dose of 10mg for PMR is absolutely scraping the bottom of the barrel of starting doses - 15mg is preferable and some need even more. Until ALL the accumulated inflammation that causes the symptoms has been cleared out you are likely to continue to experience symptoms - because there is a top up every morning and if there is still residual inflammation it easily makes it enough to feel the effect.

I think you should ask to try 15mg - that it is better at 10mg is a clear signal the diagnosis is right, just the dose is a bit low for best results. And just because you feel better is NOT a signal to go back to normal activities!! Pred is just part of the managementof PMR, lifestyle changes and rest aare very important too.

As the others say you are on too low a starting dose. You really need to knock the PMR on the head as if it can take over it will. Good luck.
