Hi all I had an Ultrasound guided injection in my left wrist yesterday (Friday) afternoon. It was very impressive watching how it all worked on the screen, with the operator/technician/medical man explaining to me everything that was happening. All of this with a "big" needle inside my wrist.

He was looking, via the ultra sound readings, for the optimum place, in my case, places to inject the local anaesthetic and steroid into.

He did say mine was extremely unusual case- well it would be wouldn't it!!! - It was fascinating watching it all happen. I asked what the big red flashes were and he said "oh, that's your major artery and I need to miss that if possible" we both laughed. No real pain, just the initial prick of the needle on entry, then that strange feeling when the liquid is pushed into your system.

Anyway, whole thing took about thirty minutes and back in three weeks for the right wrist. Nothing seems very different this morning, but time might tell!

Exciting times - let’s hope it works.. but it can take a few days to feel a difference I believe -so fingers crossed. Mine that is, not yours 😊..

from a sports site -

Most research concludes that steroid injections take between 3-5 days to work. However to be on the safe side we would normally encourage patients to have their injection ideally 7-10 days week before their event. This gives the maximum chance that the steroid will achieve maximum benefits. Your treating clinician will also be able to give you specific tailored advice with regard to when you will be safe to return to full sporting activities.

Had to chuckle at that line "safe to return to full sporting activities."

He was a very cheerful chappie. Also, seemed to be very good at what he does.

They do stick needles in that artery when they want arterial blood gas levels - but a dollop of steroid wouldn't help it ...

Good luck. I had it once so they could get right into the joint to remedy a frozen shoulder. Marvellous it soon did the trick in terms of relieving the pain and with some physio my arm was nearly back to full movement.

I had an ultrasound guided injection of steroid into my cervical spine, it didn't really hurt but the pressure I felt was very scary.
