Matcha drinks

have been given a packet of Matcha tea. Apparently it can / might suppress cortisol production. Can’t find much on posts about it, reluctant to try something I don’t fully understand!

There was some discussion about L-theanine supplement (for sleep I think) recently, Green tea contains it and matcha is ground green tea.

You presumably drink coffee and tea - both of which can increase cortisol because of the caffeine in them. Try the matcha - and see how you fare.

It also very much depends on what dose of pred you are on - if you are still above 10mg.day, your cortisol production will be suppressed by the pred anyway so the tea won't make any difference at all in that respect.

Interestingly enough my rheumatologist told me to try and avoid coffee.

He was not a very good rheumatologist either. I asked him about diet with pred and he shrugged and said avoid sugar and coffee.

Sugar yes - coffee? In UK quantities - why?

Perhaps the rheumatologist had read it somewhere!! He did mention Italian coffee in the conversation.

There is some thought that there is a link between the caffeine in your diet and calcium loss from your bones. A good coffee is one of my few pleasures but I have cut down in case. Now it’s even more of a treat.

When I worked from an office I used to get through around fifteen cups of coffee a day. I then gave it up (with withdrawal symptoms) although I still enjoy a cup every so often.

I always feel if in doubt - don’t! Especially when it’s not necessary. But then that’s me! 💐

I found the best way to control coffee intake was only to have the best in a preheated porcelain mug etc. The combination of increasing price, amount of pfaff is a great controller and the chance of a decent preheated mug when out is zilch. I will never drink out of a paper/plastic cup/mug. I used to drink gallons at work until I saw the light.
