30mg Lansoprazole , been on this for 4 months, yea sorted out acid reflux, feels heavy on my feet lately, does this drug break down your muscles over time, more prone to bone fractures over time, because of being ex semi alcoholic, could this affect nerve system in body , muscles, and as on aspirin bone fractures, bladder flow problems, fast , slow etc, and is this ok for long term use.

I replied to most of your question on the other thread. It is used longterm by many patients when they require it. If you have developed other symptoms since then you should speak to your GP about it since we can really only comment on things associated with PMR/GCA.

and it does mention liver metabolism - do you have residual problems from your alcohol issues? It also mentions urination problems, telling you to get medical advice immediately if you have urinary problems - which you suggest you do?

"Check with your doctor right away if you have a change in frequency of urination or amount of urine, blood in the urine, fever, joint pain, loss of appetite, skin rash, swelling of the body or feet and ankles, unusual tiredness or weakness, or unusual weight gain. These could be symptoms of a serious kidney problem called acute tubulointerstitial nephritis."

Many thanks, I’ve beat alcohol, I say use plain old common sense, 9/10 it works , many thanks for your time and advice, will get the blood test for b12 , and bone panel . I listen to what my body is telling me , keep busy , not read up on stuff as won’t understand the context of things , 👍

Wasn't suggesting you hadn't but there may be some residual liver damage which could increase the amount of lansoprazole in the body and so its adverse effects.

If the medication you’re taking is irritating your stomach, you might want to try putting it in acid resistant capsules from Amazon. I use that for my prednisone, and I don’t have to take anything for stomach acid anymore.

Did the use of acid resistant capsules change the way the prednisolone work. Think I'd like to try these and stop ppi's

I suspect it might take longer for the medication to work. I was taking my prednisone at 2 am, which worked well for me, but it was irritating my stomach. I now take it at 10 pm in the capsules, and it seems to work the same.

There are two aspects to the use of the PPI. It is not just mechanical irritation of the gastric lining. There is a systemic component due to the effect of pred on the prostaglandins and using the acid-resistent capsules doesn't help with that.

well I could never get into reading books, I struggle unless it’s a topic I like , love gardening, I love colour in the garden all year round , keeps me in positive frame of mind . All I will say you definitely know your literature stuff. Spot on , I like to be hands on and busy , but this year my cardio fitness level is below par, must dig myself out of this ruck I’ve created. I thought I would change the topic, but a big thank you , PMRpro 👍
