Sick days

I had a really bad night with stomach ache resulting in D & V I have not changed my dose (8mg) so I am thinking this is food poisoning .. I slept most of the morning eventually so took my Pred at 12noon instead of 8am and have not eaten but have been drinking water. I vomited only once and that was about 4am so have had my full dose of Pred today ... I do have a headache but then I haven't had any coffee yet today!

My question is do I need to take extra Pred or not? TY

If it is just a short-lived thing I'm not sure I would take extra pred. If it goes on a few days or you take the pred and vomit within an hour, then maybe more would be helpful.

Hope you feel better now...'take the day off'......maybe just try some dry crackers. I bet you'll be much more settled tomorrow.💞

KHi Birder21,

I experienced something very similar a couple of months ago.

I didn't need to take any extra pred and made sure I rested till it cleared through my system.

I was very careful how I introduced food again, and began with just water first. Its very important to rehydrate yourself after episodes of D&V.

When I could tolerate water I introduced dry toast (white bread not wholemeal as easier for gut to tolerate)

Then when I could tolerate that, I introduced a few plain biscuits like rich tea or cream crackers.

Stewed apple is really good for settling upset tummies so that was next on my list, followed by things like mashed potato, white fish, melon.

I also had all these things in small amounts to begin with.... little but often.

I then gradually introduced more of my normal diet and increased the amount I ate.

If you've got something like a viral gastroenteritis then headache is quite common. A headache is also a common side effect of being dehydrated so may just need some more fluids.

Hope you feel better very soon.
