When do I take medication while traveling?

HelloThis is the first time of posting. Three years into PMR.

I am boarding a plane when I am due to take 5 mg Prednisolone. Is it best to keep to my timings or take my medication half hour or so before or wait until I get on the plane and may be late in taking it? I am. not sure how flights effect our intake of medication.

I am also looking for travel insurence. Any advice or recommendations?

Many thanks to you all. I read your posts every morning before I go to work. You have helped me a great deal through these three years.

Many thanks.

This gives plenty of info on travel etc… probably more than you need.. but certainly take the pred early on day of outward flight-

Insurance - checking comparison sites is probably best- but Staysure and Avanti seem reasonable - am just going through similar process. Some banks do have it included in certain accounts.

Just make sure you include all existing issues and be aware that age is very often the overriding factor -not that you can do much about that!].

I have used Avanti for several years, usually with a discount code from WIor some magazines. I declare my PMR and earlier DVT and husbands Altzeimers and there has been no probs. Luckily not had to claim

I don’t think it matters either way when you take the 5mg😊

Half an hour - or even an hour - one way or the other is immaterial though I would always choose early rather than late. However - I have a dosette box with the entire day's medication in it in my handbag and all my medication for the entire holiday in my handluggage which I never let out of my sight!!! I also have alarms set on my phone for dose times.

DL has provided the info for adjusting dose to get to local times if necessary on long haul flights.

I personally lean towards earlier. Later can affect sleep. Tho’ I agree that a half hour won’t have much effect.

Hello everyoneI am just taking a break from work to catch up on your replies.

Thank you so very much you have all been a big help! It is just a 4 hour flight and I think I will take my steroids just before I board the plane, 5.30 am. I will make sure I have some food with them . If I had had a choice I wouldn't have booked that time but I am going with four friends and the flights were organised for us.

I will also look at the insurance companies advised.

Long may this forum continue.

I agree with the others I would take it earlier.

Hi

I used Staysure this year. We had to claim for cancellation of our Africa photo safari after the Vasculitis clinic weren't keen in me travelling while they had just started reducing my pred dose. Claim went through very efficiently (although I foolishly hadn't quite enough cancellation cover to recover the whole costs).

I have also used Avanti (only for UK cover yet). And All Clear are on my list too, for when we rebook, as their premiums seemed more favourable for increased cancellation cover.

Good luck with your research and have a fabulous holiday!

Funnily enough I had the same experience with Staysure - it is not clear what is included until you claim... I have insured with AllClear this time.

Oh that's good to know. I insured with All Clear a few years ago when we took my parents to Estonia for a family wedding and had to cover my Dad who'd had emergency surgery for am aortic dissection. To be honest the cancellation cover was my own daft fault. I took out an annual multi trip policy and completely overlooked our second trip, once we totted everything up, was more than the first which was what I had selected the policy level on. I won't make that mistake again (slaps forehead)
