I finally got discharged from the physio on Friday and referred back to my GP re my swollen knee.
The initial appointment with the doc a couple of months back she thought it was arthritis and referred me for physio. I had 3 appointments with him & I kept banging on about I wanted a scan, but no, he had his boxes to tick. (He thought it was a knee injury at first) but as I’ve no improvement he said on Friday it’s probably arthritis or just wear on tear ‘cos of my age.
Decided to update the travel insurers today (Avanti) as we go to Rhodes on Wednesday. The arrogant chap I spoke to said that without a definitive diagnosis then the policy would be invalidated. What!!
I later phoned back pretending to be a new enquiry, and the person I spoke to said that any undiagnosed symptom would obviously be excluded, as would all my pre-existing ones until I get a knee diagnosis. Now who is telling me the right thing here?
Anyone else experienced any dilemma like this?

Just had the same. Just had a skin lesion diagnosed as a wart but my GP isn’t happy and has re-referred me. This means any other pre-existing conditions are not covered until I get a diagnosis even if they are unrelated. This occurred 2 days before the holiday I’m now on. What’s worse, because I have another rarity that they couldn’t classify that appeared to manifest after covid so they classed it as covid. It isn’t covid at all and it was likely a coincidence and is linked to a op 40 years ago. However, if I have to cancel our next holiday in Oct because I catch covid I am no longer covered because of the aforementioned skin lesion pending diagnosis and their inability to classify it better.
No I’m not completely uninsured and this is just a 4 night break. Check with yours. Mine say they will insure something unforeseen like an accident or an appendicitis but nothing with any link to the pre-existing conditions, so it isn’t complete withdrawal of insurance.
Fortunately I managed to get a GP appointment today & he agreed to put on my records that I had osteoarthritis in my knee (he never looked at it, mind, I reckon he looked at me as a 72-year-old (a young 72!) and labelled me.
Anyway, the insurance company are now satisfied so it’s off to Rhodes we go✈️😎
Insurance companies will never cover anything for which the risk cannot be assessed before they set the premium. The process is a lot easier if you buy travel insurance from a comparison website. There are many, but I prefer Confused.com .
We usually look at comparable sites but can’t remember how we came across Avanti. However, I finally got a diagnosis from my GP this month and the insurance company are satisfied. Phew!
