I have been feeling bit cocky as I think I've been doing well.....decided to take the step method of tapering (Kate Gilbert book) Dr supporting me.....Now down to 8/7 mg of steroids 2 days for this week..... discomfort in right shoulder but nothing to complain about...
Yesterday I was poleaxed could hardly do anything I had felt tired since Sat...such an effort!
As with most of us you try to explain it away.....is it this....oh it's the steroids.
I then realised ....I'd had a real temper tantrum and stood and did my son's and his children's ironing as it had been sitting there for 10 days....it took me hrs.
So lesson learned...next time my son decides to leave his mess everywhere.... throw it out in the garden....problem solved.... 😂
I decided not to take the Alendronic Acid and upped my calcium intake instead ...

Temper tantrums might make you feel good at the time, but they do have a habit of reminding you afterwards that the extra adrenaline you require for them isn’t forthcoming when on Pred.. 🤦🏻♀️
.. what step down method - the alternate days approach? Many find the slower taper easier on body.. but if what you are doing suits you, fair enough.
Not sure about throwing son’s stuff in garden.. you might have to clear it up… and that’s too much bending..🤣😂
Hi Dorset Lady.....yes it's dropping 1mg week 1....2mg week 2 and so on....Apparently the body gets fooled into not really noticing the drop and a good way to switch the adrenal glands on....
So I thought I would try it....but will still use the flare up protocol if needed....
Hopefully my son's house will be ready in a couple of weeks and further tantrums can be avoided... 😂
So the same as my 7 week simple taper then…. not alternate days…but do monitor the shoulder, and we usually say don’t continue tapering if there is a return of pain. Or return to previous stage [week] and repeat that.
on the ironing - I just fold them and put them in the drawers then get your son to iron “on demand” when they come back out and look dodgy - the kids used to throw them all around the drawers etc anyway so waste of time ! Sore shoulders are very draining as you realise how much you use them.
I gave up ironing a long time ago. Waste of time in my opinion. If you shake out clothes and flatten them, and sometimes fold them, before you dry them they iron themselves (near enough!). But I did laugh at your meltdown. In the last year I have developed a 'zero tolerance of anxiety' policy. Once an anxiety about something I don't want to do reaches a certain pitch, is interfering with my capacity to live, and doesn't go away, I just dodge the challenge - tell people that although I said I would do something, I can't actually do it without suffering too much anxiety. It's embarrassing and gives people a shock but I feel I have to put survival ahead of keeping my own good opinion of myself and pleasing whoever it is. I am hoping I will gradually be able to be more helpful and reliable again as I get better (but will keep zero tolerance of anxiety in my toolbox). I once saw a dachshund being dragged along the street by its owner and its short little legs could not keep up. It suddenly flopped on the pavement and refused to comply. Interesting, and successful, tactic. Hope I'm not encouraging bad behaviour!
Trouble is.... he puts all the stuff in the tumble drier....and then leaves it....that's after forgetting he's put washing in the washing machine...... for a few hrs ..So even tho the shake n flatten is good (tried tested and used)....
