Stupid Apple Watch

I was able to put my Apple Watch on yesterday as swelling was less in the wrist. I was very surprised to find I did not need to put my code in to get it started, never done that before. My conclusion, it was just so happy to being used again. Put it on today and had to put the code in. I must have a temperamental AI in mine.

One wonders how we managed before?

Ahh - I remember- pen and paper - and surprisingly quite well 😉

I remember using a piece of string to measure a running distance on a map and it did not mind if I swore at it. Swear at Apple Watch and a little voice says “ I can not respond to that”

I have an innate horror of inanimate objects that speak to me. arrrggghhh!

He talks when I have not even asked him anything, he uses the excuse I must have pressed the watch. Likely excuse

🤣 Insubordinate!

Our current car apparently has some sort of voice activated servant. By accident I must have pressed a button which made it ask me what it could do for me. I couldn't get it to shut up so had to pull over and turn off the ignition. Telling it to shut up did elicit the response that it did not understand, No, I haven't bothered to figure out how to use this unnecessary feature. 🤪

My Alexa piped up a couple of days ago and told me that one of my printers was short of black ink and did I wish to order more?

I have to say mine saved my life.

My heart beat dropped to a very low level (Brachycardia)

and the watch informed me . Numerous times.

Being a man I ignored it , but my wife was concerned enough to call 111

Upshot was, I was blue lighted by ambulance to my local A&E and I was rushed through to Resus

I had a complete heart block.

Next day I had a pacemaker fitted

But for my wife and an Apple Watch I would probably not have seen the next day

So glad you are okay. It certainly has its uses health wise. My blood oxygen is always above 95% but the 3 weeks when I could not move and thought it would go away it dropped to 91%. I do think the summon help if you fall is useful although when my dog was a scatty 4 month old and I fell over her, I had Watch asking if I needed help and pup licking my face pleased with herself.

The data and monitoring capability is astonishing. My cardiac consultant is taking my Apple Watch readings to decide next action. I have bradycardia, but with increasing tachy spikes, AF and irregular rhythm. The AF is infrequent but the rhythm issue is more frequent. Oxygen levels are dropping too. It’s saved me having an implant to monitor for months. I agree, they’re potential life savers.

If your watch was anywhere near your Apple phone and that was active, ie switched on or picked up, that will unlock the watch. If I charge my watch next to phone, I don’t need to input the code. If I do it in another room, I do.

TiaPasha profile image
TiaPasha in reply toHulotsholiday

You are probably right as I think my phone was in another room. Normally watch would go on first thing, I will test it now. It wants the pass code and it is right next to phone.

Clearly has a mind of its own!

Is it like a computer browser where you can tell it to remember a password? Maybe that needs to be reset?

I am in hospital and find the Blood Oxygen and ECG readings on my Apple Watch calibrate very well with the hospital equipment.

Thanks for good wishes PMRpro! Am in Kingston hospital (UK) after phoning 999 with extreme fatigue, dizziness and chest pains. Might still be PMR. Am back to 10 mg Prednisolone on flare after 6 years trying to conquer PMR. A CT scan here has found blood clots on lungs so hoping antibiotic and blood thinner treatment by hospital will work. If not it’s back to the Deadly Fatigue and deadly slow Pred reduction routine.

Thinking of you and hope the antibiotics work.

You can't conquer PMR - you can only work with it and accept the limitations. Try to beat it over the head and you will be the one to suffer! What have you been up to to develop PEs?

Purple-Owl profile image
Purple-Owl in reply toPMRpro

PEs =pulmonary embolisms? Wish I 🤨had been up to something a bit more exciting than my rather boring PMR restricted lifestyle to develop them!

AI [good though it may be in some ways,] is fast taking some down the route of not being able to think for oneself!

Highlandtiger profile image

Does she know she can switch these off completely or reduce the frequency if she wants? They’re just a suggestion to slow down, relax and breathe deeply for a minute a couple of times a day but she can switch them off in settings if she wants.

I have a Samsung version, as I have a Samsung mobile and it's health properties are excellent, BP, ECG, Blood Oxygen etc always in sync and completely alligned with readings I get when at the doctors. I also regularly calibrate it with a good quality cuff BP machine, it reminds me to do that. You can also control/set what you want it to do/report if you don't it to be intrusive. Useful as if I forget to take my phone with me I can make phone calls from it as well.

I hate taking a call in the supermarket with it as I think people assume I am talking to myself .

Most young people look like that anyway when they use ear buds with their phone ...

TiaPasha profile image
TiaPasha in reply toPMRpro

When I see people holding their phone under their face and having a conversation on load speaker I want to scream WHY. Mind you a lady nearly came unstuck in a cafe the other day. Hubby was sitting quietly having a cuppa and a woman had her phone on the table and talking very loudly on speaker to whoever called until one caller said it was her medical practice calling about her results, she picked the phone up so fast nearly knocking her coffee over. If I am listening to my phone through ear buds and I get a call I just get confused. Love technology but on my terms.

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply toTiaPasha

I never use the phone on speaker when out or in company and although I have them I rarely, if ever, use ear buds.

I was waiting at the doctor the other day, well over an hour, with my nose in my phone - reading a book on Kindle (most useful app on the phone besides the bus times) when a man came in and started watching something - sport by the sound - without ear buds! So we ALL had to listen along. As for phone calls - beginning to think phones should be banned in public!!! I REALLY don't want to hear even ONE side of the conversation shouted into the phone. All Italians use any phone as if the person needs to hear them from the other side of the football field!

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply toPMRpro

Yey, get those people on the bus here at times, it's very irritating. Love Kindle, like you, one of the most used apps on my phone and Tab.

I was with the GP for about 3 mins - I commented on my wait and the half book I'd been able to read and she said at least I wasn't playing games on the phone like everyone else!

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply toTiaPasha

It's not a option I use often, in fact I don't think I've ever made a phone call from it. The Grandchildren have a few times when they have been "investigating"! It is useful to know it's available if needed though.
