I am leaving PMRGCA uk and this group sadly I have to deal with terminal lung cancer that has moved into the bones. The NHS cannot cure only seek containment. I now have a major daily drug intake including dexamethasone (which replaces the parked 5mg maintenance prednisolone!) As I say goodbye I want to thank this site and those who have given me such wonderful support. I had GCA in 2016 followed by two PMR flares and have been on prednisolone ever since, all tapering plans failing! I am particularly grateful for the pearls of wisdom from Dorset Lady and PMR Pro who always stepped forward on every question I ever raised! Thank you both and thank you all. Good luck!
Good bye and good luck to you all !: I am leaving... - PMRGCAuk
Good bye and good luck to you all !

I'm so sorry to hear that - may I wish you and your family all the very best in your journey ahead, It won't be easy for any of you and I hope you get similar support to here from someone.
Dexamethasone made my husband eat me out of house and home so I hope the house chef is prepared for that!
Dex also did to me during the first round of chemo. Now it gives me an appetite through the nausea. A fellow patient likened it to the appetite quirks of pregnancy. What I relish on a Tuesday will make me gag on a Wednesday. I've lost ten pounds since 2nd round of chemo. Start last round on Monday. 3 weeks, then one week off, then stem cell transplant. I can't believe I have come this far.
Dear Michael, so very sorry to hear your news. I hope your ongoing care will keep you comfortable
The Dexamethasone will certainly help & l hope things are not too tough.
Kind Regards
MrsN

Such a brave but positive post, bad news is hard to hear and even harder to write about. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours, and wishing you as comfortable a journey as possible alsoThankyou for giving your valuable time to share your diagnosis with us, again thinking of you 💕
Very sorry to hear of your health news and am wishing you are not in much pain where pain meds can help along with dexamethasone.
Stay strong my friend. We are still here for you.
Wishing you and your family courage and fortitude to face this new phase of illness. You have been strong so far and sound resolute. Best of luck ☘🌸
I also have cancer, and am being told by the stem cell specialist where I will be receiving a transplant that I no longer have Giant Cell Arteritis. I decided not to leave the site although I do not post much any more . Like you, my focus has changed. I have Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of it. Undergoing four rounds of chemo now. The particular form of MM I have is wiping out kidneys, so it is kind of a race against time. Really afraid of the stem cell transplant as it will be grueling. Plus, I am no spring chicken. Even if my focus has changed, I still like being a part of this group. Everyone always want to reach out and help others, and I have always appreciated it. It takes so much courage to deal with cancer. I am getting a blood transfusion today, On IV antibiotics from a blood infection. Some days it feels like there is an invisible hand on my back, pushing me forward to get through the day. Other days it feels surreal, like I am standing outside of myself, watching my life play out. Oh, by the way, I am also on Dexamethasone. Dex per dose is 10 times the strength of prednisone, so taking 4mg. of dex is similar to taking 40 of prednisone. I am on 4 chemo drugs and by far, the Dex is the hardest to take.
Dear phebamom💐I hope you are staying strong and your treatment helping you. It is truly heart warming to read your reply to DevonMichael. Thank you 🌼 What a terrible time you are going through.
Sending big hugs x
What can one say, everyone who replied, the many reading your post, including me, are all saddened by your words. I am reminded of a musician Warren Zevon, who also had terminal cancer. On a late night talk show, the host David Lettermen. He asked WZ to share a few words with to the millions watching the show. I leaned forward wondering what he would say. He simply said “ Enjoy every sandwich” At first I thought what a strange thing to say. Then I saw the profundity of his words. It goes for all of us, enjoy every simple moment, enjoy that sandwich.
Thinking of you Michael and sending a big hug xx
