smell & taste

I was just wondering if anyone has lost their sense of smell and taste due to PMR ? I did have covid back in March , but around the same time this flare up occurred.

I suspect that given that loss of sense of smell and taste is one of the well known symptoms, I’d say that the cause is Covid and the flare was either also caused by Covid or was coincidental. Either way it’s annoying!

I have had Covid twice and both times lost taste and smell. That was how I knew it was Covid rather than a weird cold! Very unpleasant but did go away.

I think it is much more likely to be due to the Covid - it is a common effect.

I have no smell or taste most of the time. It returns briefly , occasionally. I did have covid last October, I had a definite PMR flare in Dec and I was down to 3.5mg . I did not know what to blame. Moving back to 10mg fixed the main PMR pain, but smell and taste only return briefly and occassionally.

My senses of taste and smell were not affected by PMR, or indeed, by Covid, but they were both changed when I first started pred. The very first day everything tasted much sweeter, which in the long run was a good thing because it helped with not putting on weight. Both smell and taste are still somewhat attenuated, particularly sweet and salt.

Oh that’s interesting you should say that !

I find some foods either very salty or sweet ! Particularly since prednisolone treatment .
