For the first time in nearly a year, I have a cold and where I before just go on with it, I am feeling terrible! My body aches so much from my shoulders to the groin and neck and wondering if is this normal when having an autoimmune disease. Should I increase my prednisone until this passes as not sure if the aching is from PMR or having this cold? My body feels so tired and not my normal reaction to something such as a cold!
Thank you

Check for Covid. I tested for Covid which was just like a heavy cold. I was fortunate in being recommended for an antibody infusion which lessened its severity and I was negative after seven days. I still feel very fatigued though and am resting. I didn’t adjust my pred, just the daily activity. Drink plenty of fluids. Very annoying though, ruined our long awaited New Year celebrations after last year’s non event when I was in the depths of higher steroid doses and the attendant side effects.
As suggested sounds more like covid-so please check.
And although there are sick day rules which cover Covid , unless it’s enough to send you to your bed for a few days -I’d just go with paracetamol, plenty of fluids and TLC.
If required SDR -but do need to be discussed with GP-
I have just tested positive for Covid after fairly mild cold like symptoms. Both OH and myself feel disproportionately exhausted. Absolutely exceptionally I spent 3 days in bed. I regret not invoking SDRules a day or two earlier than I did. Am now 7 days post test, headache gone, up and doing bits and bobs, but deaf, tinnitus and feel as if underwater all the time, energy levels 5/10 at best 🤧
Are you sure it is "just" a cold? That sounds very like the current versions of Covid. And even bad cold can really knock you for six when you have a chronic illness like PMR.
Sounds like Covid to me. Muscle pains can be severe. Test a few times as it can take a few days to test positive if you ever do. If it were me, if I was doing ok on my dose prior to this, I’d just ride it out with fluids, rest and paracetamol if you can’t sleep or your temperature is very high. Pred doesn’t help Covid much.
Agree with others. Does not sound like a cold. Sounds like Covid, which is going around again, or the flu.
I am on the tail end (I hope!) of a cold, and it has been very mild; just a bit of congestion and runny nose. No other symptoms except a painful right eye which I’m wondering has been caused by sinus congestion on that side. I’m going to the ophthalmologist this morning to make sure.
By the way, even if you test negative, sometimes it takes a week or more of being sick with Covid for a test to come back positive.
Just to say, I did have covid and what a few days that was! hallucinating, aching all over and my mood was weird. Talk about being sensitive to everything and flew off the handle at the pettiest of things and that is just not me! Anyway, all better now and feeling better. Thanks to all the comments and support as always.
