Having a cold with PMR

Having PMR for 6 month now I wonder when you get a common cold how do you feel. Do have all the normal cold effects?

I think i have caught a cold but feel a bit odd. My cheeks ach like i have been laughing all day or could this be the Pred?

I think PMR joins in with viruses, making you feel worse. You could try another 1 mg to see if it eases off. I was struck by the sweet way you describe the cheek pain, but do watch out for actual jaw pain when chewing. This is a sign of possible GCA.

Personally I miss out on a lot of symptoms - just major sneezing and maybe a slight cough. Must be the pred keeping the inflammation bits down ...

That’s interesting. I’ve got a bit of a cold just now but I just keep feeling that it’s 'not coming to anything'. A bit sneezy one day, a bit of a sore throat and cough another day but not really ever reaching 'peak cold'.

I've had pmr for 4 years and not had a cold at all!

I haven't had cold/cough for nearly 6 years even tho Oh has just got over bad chest infection. Keep feeling the pred must protect me even tho I thought it was meant to lower the immune system.!?

That's the feeling I have had - supppose all the inflammation in a cold is suppressed.

I had a cold before Xmas which went on and on (was at 8 Mg of Pred at the time). Was concerned so went to the gp who said there was an increased risk of it turning into ‘something nasty’ so gave me a prescription just in case but it eventually went away with no untoward ill effects!
