Help! Raised serum organic phosphate levels

Hello everyone...

A month ago I posted after being concerned about a raised organic serum level. 1.89. After a change of diet and a retest there is no significant difference it’s now 1.84. The normal range is 1.40.

All other bone profile and renal rests are fine as is the parathyroid level. I know PMRpro suggested helpful follow up tests..

could this be linked to osteoporosis or cardiovascular problems? and is it something to be concerned about. I am a worrier!!

I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis of the spine and have been encouraged to start alendronic acid. I haven’t done this yet as I was waiting for the outcome of the blood test.

Anyone out there with a similar experience?

Thank you all experts. 🤔

Without knowing a lot more parameters it is impossible to say - and I'm sure the GP will explain when they have decided what to do. Did they do a lot of other tests at the same time?

It has gone down a bit with the change of diet - not sure how long it takes but I imagine they would want to see a greater improvement.

One reason for a high level would also account for the osteoporosis in your spine.

There is no point worrying until they have decided what is causing it to be raised. I know it is easy for me to say but don't worry and if the doctor doesn't contact you it probably means they aren't worried either.

Hi Pangolin

I had this 10 years ago when they were doing intensive bloods after a relapse.

It’s always been an issue with them as I don’t have raised inflammatory markers .

It’s under the bone health section although my eGFR had dropped too .

They weren’t interested in following it up .

10 years later my CKD has improved from the 50’s , to borderline after latest bloods .

Our bodies are strange, they do try hard to repair .

Regarding bones my Dexa scan was good.

Take care

You’re welcome Pangolin. I do worry and get anxious about tests so understand .

You could always ask for the infusions for bones if you’d prefer to the AA.

I know the NHS don’t give us a choice , it’s worth being cheeky and asking though, it was great for my Mum.

All will be well. xx
