I am having mine on Saturday and glad to have it and the flu one before flying to Australia for 3 weeks. Covid is becoming rife again

I asked today, I'm wary of having another - each vaccination and each booster I'e received has sharply set pred tapering back, I am just not sure.

I caught Covid a year ago, on the day of Queen Elizabeth's funeral. The first five days not bad at all but then the virus hit me hard. In the second five days it settled for the longer haul in my nasal cavities and lung and I was full of congestion, I couldn't breathe through my nose, and became panicky, I ended up at 11pm on the tenth day in Accident & Emergency due to hyperventilating and fainting. I don't want to get that again, but the boosters cannot stop the infection.

No, they don;t stop it, but they do reduce its effect and reduce the risks of developing Long Covid. If you were that bad with Covid with jabs, think what it might be like without.

I am struggling to find somewhere to get one! my surgery will only do flu/covid together or not at all.....not risking it.....

Can you not book the Covid jab on the online booking system and then get the flu jab from Docs or pharmacy.

I have booked the flu jab at a pharmacy......and now trying to get covid jab...have tried at another surgery not linked to mine.....fingers crossed.....Thanks

But if you have already HAD the flu jab ...

Tried that when I spoke to surgery last week, she said both or you will be turned away, I said why? She said we don’t have the facilities, I said you mean you won’t get so much money! I said more people will get covid because many won’t have both together. I had rung the surgery because they text me to have my yearly asthma and high BP review….. I don’t have either!! She checked and said, oh no, you don’t!…..they were happy to see me in 2 weeks time, had the facilities for that!……unbelievable.

Yes, but surely if you book the appointment and turn up to it, they are being totally stupid to claim they haven't the facilities to given one jab instead of two. I've heard some pretty stupid excuses but that beats most! Who did you speak to?

Receptionist, who put me through to nurse to “explain “ but in two weeks time I have GP appointment, and blood tests, I will question GP no doubt about that. Apparently there have been so many people ring up about this they are sending letters out next week, will post on here what it says.

Do hope letter sorts it out for you. I have just booked Covid through NHS app. No mention of having flu as well. We have enough things to worry about without surgeries complicating things.

Sorry to rub salt into wound, but just to show how different surgeries are…

I had a look online to book covid - but couldn’t find one in usual hubs so thought I’d have same issue as you… So rang surgery ready for a battle …

Me - have you set flu clinics yet and can I book?

Surgery - Yes, do you want to book covid as well as we’re doing both …

Me - rather not have them together, can I have separately?

Surgery - no problem at all ….. can book flu one on 30 Sept, and covid one 10 days later, is that okay for you?

Me - great..

How it should be…. 😊

I am jealous!...but have heard a few stories where surgeries are like mine, some like yours....I could understand it if they know some patients can't cope with both because of various reasons. A nother thing that made me refuse is last Monday I had second Zelondronic infusion, first one no effects, this time felt quite ill all week.....might not be connected but not chancing it.......

As we say very often, it does seem a postcode lottery for many things NHS… shouldn’t be…

Agree that a bit of understanding would go a long way…and no point in taking a chance after infusion..

After Covid jabs I'm ill so definetly don't have both together. Get Covid first from GP. You could always go to a pharmacy for your flu jab I know Asda are offering them.

Quite agree but GP refusing to give covid on its own!

I have totally given up on my surgery. I think they're making up their own rules!! I've always booked my covid jabs via NHS site and got appointments at local "cottage" hospital.

Now tried that, too busy! Rang 119 waited 25 mins, no patience for any longer!…Will wait till later in the day or week. Things have changed not for the benefit of the patients.

Online booking system now open so that may provide some more options ….our GP also doing both at the same time so avoiding.

My invitations to book came separately from the surgery. When I rang the receptionist said we advise at least 5 days apart. You would have thought the advice would be the same everywhere in the NHS.

Shocking my surgery can get away with this rule they have, or can they?

Hi, I don't have PMR I'm Immunosupressed I was booked to have my flu vaccine on Saturday 17th September. I couldn't book covid until October but both dates I was away. When I turned up at the surgery there were two queues. I was asked "are you here for flu or flu and covid" I said I didn't know they were doing covid now and was told the government had sent them drugs to start early. I said I didn't want both together as I am ill after the covid vaccine. The lady in charge said "well you can have covid today and re book flu." I had my covid and 12 hours after felt rubbish shivering and aching, I took paracetamol from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening and despite the stiff arm was ok. I'm glad I didn't have them together. My 80 year old mother had the new strain of covid last week with sickness, diarrhoea, headache and a very runny nose. She couldn't eat for 4 days so got very dizzy and dehydrated. She was ok once we got the rehydration drinks in her and made a full recovery and was able to go out on day 10 after a negative test result. Thank goodness for the vaccines I dred to think how ill she'd have been without it. She is having her booster as soon as she is allowed.

I have to disagree - there is ample evidence worldwide that it has reduces the effect of Covid - people seem to have short memories about the severity of Covid pre vaccine.

I appreciate what your view is, and I’m not arguing with that, it’s all personal choice, but unfortunately it’s not a straightforward as that is it ? …

Heading says - deaths involving COVID-19 and deaths not involving COVID-19, and many death certificates had covid as cause of death… even if it was only a secondary cause not primary cause. Plus a lot of people who have been getting the vaccines already have underlying illnesses which makes them more vulnerable anyway… so in all probability are more likely to die than those with no health issues.

I’m sorry but that’s definitely not true. Deaths literally soared here in the US before the vaccine. Of course the vaccine didn’t prevent Covid but it lessened the severity. Eventually between the vaccine and some people’s immunity after getting Covid the deaths started to slow. Once again it doesn’t mean nobody got Covid but the severity became less.

I had mine (number 8) this morning and didn't hesitate to book it. As others have said, covid is on the rise again and I felt it was better to have the vaccine than not have it. I did have Covid in early July and was given the anti viral drug Paxlovid which was very effective . Only you can decide what is best for you.
