I was diagnosed with PMR 3 years ago and after a fairly bumpy ride I have now been off Prednisone for two and a half months. I have been called for a Shingles vaccination. I reacted badly to the Covid jabs each time. I have had Shingles twice! Once about 35 years ago and then for the second time 9 years ago. Then it took about 2 years for the post herpatic pain to go. Should I have the vaccine? My gut feeling is to avoid it, especially as I am finally returning to some form of normal life after 3 years of hell! Many thanks. This website has been such a help and support.

I sympathise with your dilemma.
Read this updated advice from the NHS:

I hope the information helps you to make up your mind. Perhaps a conversation with your GP or advanced nurse practitioner at the practice would be useful.
I also see your dilemma - but the advantages of the Shingrix vaccine are great. And you have first hand experience of post-herpetic neuralgia which is really the main reason for having the vaccine.
I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet. Thank you for your help.
I had the vaccination on Wednesday, felt rough the following day and fine after that
I felt rough after the 1st shot - flu-like symptoms for a couple days. The 2nd shot is given 3 to 6 months later. I didn't think much of it and got the 2nd shot after 3 months. I was very sick - in bed for 3 days, felt awful, ached all over. Called the dr and asked if this was "normal" and when would I feel better? I got through it but if I had it to do over again, I would wait at least 5 months before getting the 2nd shot.
