I’m new to this PMR diagnosis. Is it normal to feel sick and off food ? I’ve been off steroids for a few weeks , but might be put back on them .
Hi

It isn't a usual thing with PMR as far as I know,
You were at a fairly high dose of pred - how long were you on pred altogether and over how long did you taper from about 7mg to zero?
I was on pred for 5 months . Tapered for 8 weeks . Last 7 days , 5 mg per day then stopped . Which was the advice of rheumatologist.
Very likely - they really DON'T stop to think about possible repercussions. Most of them don't even consider poor adrenal performance.
I think your nausea and lack of interest in food is that your adrenal function was suppressed, 5mg is still enough to suppress it, you didn't allow ANY time for it to wake up again so you are suffering adrenal insufficiency. You went slowish above 5mg - where you really NEEDED to go slowish was UNDER 5mg.
Yes I did think it was odd the rheumatologist weaned me off the way she did !
I had a similar experience, Lost 15 pounds , down to 103 lbs.and felt terrible. Dr. gave me meds for nausea, referred me for many tests. Meanwhile I decided that my problem was the method suggested to me as to getting off of prednisone which I had been off of for months. I went back on ten mgs. reducing quickly, am still taking 3 mgs. per week nine months later because my appetite came back quickly and I am very wary of any sudden moves.
