Join us on PMR GCA Gardening facebook.com/groups/6288051... I find looking at the lovely photos of people’s gardens and plants really lifts me and brings a smile to my face.

Hi Ronzy, I have found that having a teaspoon of Manuka honey, only from Australia and New Zealand, that I appear to have a lot more energy and feel the difference when I don't.

Nor suggesting it is a miracle cure but unless the "sugar" is a problem, may be worth a try. There are various types due to the MGO content, some as high as 600+ but very expensive, I have found that 100+ works well and only 2 to 3 times the price of normal honey, good luck.

Just be aware to check you are actually buying Manuka, apparently over the last few years sales of "Manuka" honey have been way higher than the amount actually produced!

Hi Bcol, I believe you have a point, as with anything there can always be imitations. I believe the NZ honey may be the case in question, there are over 80 different manuka trees in Australia and produce different MGO levels hence the different pricing, I buy mine from reputable retailers in Australia in fact I will be in Europe during Ag/September and will take a few samples for relatives. Cheers

I know people will scream when they read this, but on taking 2 paracetamols with caffeine has definitely helped me. There is also aspirin with caffeine in the supermarkets, , but I don’t use aspirin.

turmeric and/or ginger tea

Coffee

Also food and water. Seriously. Been there. Not eating enough can make you feel tired and so can dehydration. Glugging water can be enough to wake you up., like a little plant that's wilted!

I was interested to read that coffee is considered anti inflammatory. I was expecting the opposite.

I love turmeric and ginger tea. I make my own infusion from the chopped root.

A war rages over coffee. I don't think it has ever made the slightest difference to my PMR. I find it preferable to tea. I adore Lapsang with lemon but I find all tea more disruptive to sleep in that with me coffee wears off and then you push up the zzz. Tea too late in the day leaves me in a thoroughly annoying state where I feel tired but sleep refuses to come.

I don't think the coffee affects my PMR either. That's really funny, as I am the other way around. I only ever have coffee with breakfast, but I can drink tea, even if I wake in the middle of the night, and I will sleep again after. I do know what that wired caffeine buzz feels like though. It's horrible. When I was on 15 mg pred, I was like that. I stayed up all night a few times before I was told to drop the dose.

I would love an answer to this question too. I feel like I need a boot up the backside to get me started most days.

Are you taking Vitamin D? I noticed a slight improvement a couple of weeks after I started taking it, on the advice of my rheumatologist. I am also going to ask the doc if I would benefit from some iron, since I read that a lot of PMR patients are anaemic.

I have an idea that some of my lack of energy comes from not being able to exercise because of fatigue, so it is self perpetuating. I have got up early the last few days and had a swim first thing when I feel slightly less tired and then I take a nap after if I need it. The benefit for me is that being in the water is the only time that I feel really comfortable and I feel less tired in the water, even if I can do a lot less than I used to be able to. I then take a sauna after, which doesn't give me any more energy, but it makes my muscles feel lovely.

I've also noticed that I feel most sluggish and tired after a meal. I have been on a low carb diet since I started pred, though I lapse now and again. The carbs definitely make the tiredness worse for me.

The inertia that comes with PMR is an enemy. "I don't wanna. I don't wanna." But then I do: I walk, I hit the exercise bike, I lift some weights, I work in the yard, and eventually (like after 5-10 minutes), amazingly, I have some energy after all. The big thing is NOT to be inactive.

get some ADRENAL supplements at the heath food store. They helped me a lot!

Be very careful - some are likely to suppress adrenal function with some very dodagy ingredients and some are downright dangerous.

😳 yikes well I guess I lucked out. The brand I take helped me tremendously I was so tired I napped 6 times a day. After taking this supplement I hardly nap at all. πŸ€”πŸ€”

Yes - but is that necessarily a good thing? What is in it? Some contain stuff that will prevent the adrenal glands feeling the need to start working again - which is the natural effect of the low pred dose and what you want.

hmmmmmm……well it really was a Stress B complex…..I guess I was so tired and desperate I would have tried anything….all I did was sleep all day…luckily my tiredness is gone. I’m down to 2.5 mg a day. I feel almost normal again, thank goodness

The lady at the health food store recommended this…it seemed to help

Thanks for your reply….

somtimes i feel my adren gland has died 😱😫

Make sure you rest in the day when you need to ( if possible) take Vit D . I started to take a good quality Vit B12 recently which has really helped with my energy levels can take more than one a day to start with then after a month go down to one a day ..
