Until a few days ago I was taking soluble Magnellon 300 mg each day in the early evening, after food. I've been doing this since PMR diagnosis in August 2020.
For the last 3 months or so I've been experiencing 'flutterings' in my legs and feet when I'm relaxing and in bed at night.
Having read that Magnesium Bisglycinate is a recommended form of magnesium I started to add this in the mornings - 555mg capsules. It may be just a coincidence but last night I had my best night's sleep for years and no flutterings.
I'd like to ask your advice on whether or not you think I may be taking too much. Around 400mg per day is the recommended amount but with PMR do I need a higher dose I wonder?
As always, thanks for reading and appreciate your support. By the way, I'm currently on 7.5mg prednisolone.

I would say if there are no adverse effects like the laxative effect and it is working it isn't a problem. But maybe better to increase magnesium containing foods and reduce the use of the other supplement.
I am struggling with my magnesium, however I have now been prescribed the sachets that seem to be fine. For a couple years I have been lovingly spraying myself with a spray I buy from Holland and Barrett. Am I wasting my time with this?
Thank you. I knew you would know. I think it came into its own when I was struggling with the effects of the spinal stenosis however if it isn’t doing anything I won’t waste the money.
Trust you and Dorset Lady ( who is right of course ) to find a way around this. I have friends who proudly order Pellegrino and I always thought, show offs wasting money and you can’t beat a nice glass of Dwr Cymru. Clearly I was wrong. 🥂
Is it expensive in the UK? They have done an amazing marketing job mind! Gets everywhere. But it is used in a lot of village cafes here. Though most of us are happy with tap water here - comes pretty much straight off the mountain ...
Depends where you get it. Supermarkets do some reasonable deals but hotels take full advantage. I suppose I object to paying twice. It was 8 euros a bottle In Montegro and that came straight off the mountain. I am just relieved there is something more I can do the improve my Magnesium levels, as you say it isn’t easy
8 euros for water anywhere is a piece of nonsense - blatant profiteering! For a long time the hotel in the village had used tap water until a business man who ate there told them off for not selling plain water in a bottle! They switched - but since he finally retired and went back home all week they are back to jugs! Up the mountain the posh restaurant even does bubbles in jugs - but 3 euros for a litre which is acceptable in that sort of place,
It is usury. A very expensive hotel and they were horrified we asked for tap water. I bet that’s what the natives drink.
There is so much silly snobbery about it. The Royal Opera House, bastion of privilege provide it from a jug and the Albert Hall used to leave jugs out to help yourself.🥂
400mg magnesium is the recommended dose. But if you take it altogether you won't absorb it all. You have to take 100mg 3 or 4x daily for it to have a maximum effect. Also don't touch magnesium oxide. It's not good. Bis Glycinate and threonate are good for sleep. Taurate is good for your heart. Malate is good for energy. Some people take malate in the mornings and Glycinate in the evenings. Make sure any magnesium you buy does not have any more than 100mg per capsule/tablet as any more than that will surely contain oxide or fillers.
