Magnesium

I've been taking magnesium tabs for the last two weeks to help with my muscle pain, but was wondering if any of you had tried magnesium cream or gel to rub directly into the sore muscles as well

I'm afraid I'm very sceptical about using cream/gels to get things into the body! The skin is designed to keep some things inside and other things outside. Unless the molecules you want to get inside are very small they won't get past the door. Many things are now being advertised as having "nano technology", meaning they are carried on tiny tiny bits of something. But there is no evidence that this stuff is safe longterm to have circulating in your body and being got rid of via the kidneys - assuming it can be excreted.

Thank you PMRpro. I'm glad I asked the question and didn't rush out to buy any as I know it's not cheap. I will persevere with the tablets. I'm sure they are helping as I have started on my taper from 30mg to 27.5mg this week with no adverse effects which is a blessing. Onwards and upwards :) God bless xx

Yes - I have used spray oil and also crystals in both foot baths and full baths. I find them really good, though once your supplement- assisted levels go up to a decent mark, then you probably won't get the really marked pain relief that you get early on. I still find the spray useful for targeting smaller areas of pain (and you can carry it with you and apply as needed, up to a certain number of times a day) and the crystals for general well-being. A bath with crystals in leaves your skin feeling wonderful as well as getting rid of aches! You need to buy a really good, pharmaceutical quality brand of either - I have tried cheaper crystals and they don't work. I have posted before on this and did mention brands that are of very good quality - if you want to know more send me a message.....

Thank you Green_girl - I've tried the crystals in the past as I love a good soak, but I fear they may have been inferior ones. If you could point me towards better quality ones I'd really appreciate it. I'm going to stick with my Solgar supplement too, despite the, errr, side effects if you get my drift ;) as I also have fibromyalgia and I read recently that magnesium deficiency can exacerbate both this and pmr.

I take one solgar magnesium citrate tablet at bed time. Two tend to get the ol' tummy going if you know what I mean
