I think I saw a post which said it was okay to take D mannose with prednisone, adcal and the other things we take for PMR and GCA but I can’t find it. I have taken 5 courses of antibiotics since February for a persistent UTI and I think it might be worth seeing if this will help to get rid of it. Thanks

D mannose
There is no reason not to take D-mannose as it isn't a drug, just a particular form of a sugar. It is the sugar that is in cranberry juice and is the reason for it being recommended for UTIs.
Hi smelly dog, I have been on prednisone for 3years 8 months, and have taken Dmannose every day for the past 18 months for irritable bladder. It is a marvelous natural remedy for bladder complaints. I've just tapered to 9.5 after 2 years of yo yoing. After a procedure for my complaint I still take 1 tablet every morning, I haven't had any problems and my specialist said it's OK and much better than antibiotics. I was on 3 tablets a day for over 6 months, no problems, in fact I don't know how I would've survived without it. Good luck. Janis
My specialist told me not to have cranberry juice.
that’s very helpful. I have a duplex kidney and have had surgery many years ago and can be prone to uti’s but this is not pleasant along with the PMR and GCA. The d mannose I have bought includes cranberry extract. Is this the one you take? I had read that I shouldn’t have cranberry juice. Thanks very much.
Did he say WHY? I can't see the point of it - it is an acquired taste and you need gallons to get the same amount of D-mannose and that involves loads of other sugar since cranberries are so tart.
My D Mannose has nothing else in it, just 1000mg D mannose, I also had to stick to a low oxolate diet, but that was for the irritation. I'm still very aware of high oxolate foods. I take Uro Fem D-Mannose, this is a NZ product, but you should be able to buy similar or try on line. They do sell on line. Best of luck.Janis
Thank you, let us know how you get on.
Can you take D-Mannose if you are diabetic?
I have read a few articles that say D-Mannose is a sugar that can make diabetes worse to control.
I take D mannose every night as a precaution against UTIs. When I have had a UTI in the past I have just increased the dose over the day. I take the powdered variety and just take 1 scoop full in a small amount of water each night.
