Any information on ongoing left breast pain. I had a mammogram scheduled and then cancelled when I showed up for the appointment. They said I need a diagnostic mammogram because of the pain. I had told them that when I made the appointment. I needed another referral from my GP.
Now trying to make that appointment. I have increased pain under my left arm along with the breast. Please let me know if anyone has experienced this escalation and is it related. Thank you.

How worrying for you. I googled it and learned that a diagnostic mammogram is often done after a mammogram if you are having actual symptoms. Cancer often has no symptoms. I hope everything is alright. I have experienced breast pain with PMR and have trouble finding comfy bras. I think I would go to emergency services if the pain continued to worsen. You have not been treated in a very considerate way, in my opinion.
Do you have breast clinics in the US? If you are having ongoing breast issues, that would be the best place because if you need investigation, you need more than just a mammogram. When I had mine looked at, they did an ultrasound too because mammograms are not foolproof; it certainly didn’t show up my issue but was very obvious on ultrasound and MRI. Breast pain can have various causes and it is possible it is not the breast per se but the chest wall. Also, arm pit or referred pain from nerves to one side as a bunch of them pass through the armpit and into the arm.
I had breast cancer but it was pretty obvious; I had a large lump (painless) but it didn’t show on mammogram at all but it was plain as day on ultrasound and MRI. It did not present with your symptoms. Breast pain can have other causes but I’d want a more comprehensive and faster check if possible for peace of mind. It’s a case of working out in what area it has a basis, eg. musculoskeletal (inflammatory or not), neurological, physical eg cyst, infection.
I was hospitalized recently and had chest X-rays. Not for the breast. I'm sorry about your breast cancer. I hope you are doing well. You have given me a lot to think about. I will discuss it with my doctor.
