I have had a swelling in my neck for over two years and doctors have done ultrasound scans found I have I have nodules on my thyroids but never investigated further, but the report said further investigation needed.

I think in that case you need to chase it up.
I have , the reply well they say you have nodules on your thyroid, even told the rheumatologist and he said nothing.

And how do they know whether they are "just" nodules or something that needs attention? Grammy80 has a similar experience - the nodule grew until it was pressing on her windpipe. Not a good look!!!
Need to try all the members of your GP practice I think.
my mother in law had nodules on her windpipe which turned into something serious and was rushed to hospital because she couldn’t breathe, she fit through it miraculously
I had nodules on my thyroid about 30 years ago. Then I found one night I couldn’t breathe and I was admitted to hospital and had half of my thyroid removed. I haven’t had any further problems. I think you need to pursue this. 💐
I had painless lump in neck around mid 2021. It was associated w some difficulties swallowing. Turned out I had tonsil cancer, w salivary glands in neck affected. Must say, treatment worse than condition - been sounding like a frog on a bad day, ever since - but no more lump in neck. Probably best to get these things checked out.
A nodule was seen on my thyroid when I had a CT done of the lungs where there was a small nodule. The small nodule is just to be scanned again in a year but the nodule on the thyroid was much larger. Radiologist recommended a biopsy which I had and it was benign. It is worth it to find out. It too will be monitored and scanned again in one year. Peace of mind is worth a lot. Most of my doctors acted like they were inconsequential and said most older people have them and don’t know it.
Hmmm, I had three black cats, great memories.
Now...personally, I would want to know more. Some nodules are so tiny and no bother, and some are filled with fluid, and the fluid can be drained. The nodule I have was discovered on my thyroid eight years ago. Back then, it was really tiny but got to 4.5 cm and pressed against the esophagus. They seem to hold off on any biopsy until they monitor to watch for growth and if so; biopsy.
I was scheduled for surgery to remove one side of the thyroid, but while in the process of pre-op tests, I had a severe asthma attack and was in the hospital for 10 days. So, at 82.6 years, general anesthesia was out, and the surgery was off. I had the nodules drained and they got a tablespoon of liquid...that has given me some relief.
Every case is so unique, but I'd feel better if you were armed with more information! Good luck to you.💞
