Just had my 6th Covid jab this morning, and it was called Vidprevtyn beta. Anyone else had this version?

going for my next vaccination (think it might be the 6th) on Friday. Not too sure what it will be

It's the Sanofi/GSK listed below - haven't had mine yet -

The JCVI also advised the following vaccines may be used in the 2023 spring program:

Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent

Moderna bivalent

Sanofi/GSK monovalent (beta variant)

Novavax monovalent (wild-type variant) – only for use when alternative products are not considered clinically suitable.

I read somewhere the Janssen jcovden vaccine is being used too. Perhaps UK has not bought any! Macron will be pleased that the Sanofi/GSK vaccine is now allowed to be used as they really missed the boat.

Given this list I looked up what I had on 5-Apr-23 and my record says

Pfizer Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.4-5

All the previous ones were Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19. New Zealand went with Pfizer for just about everybody. I expected the one I had would say bivalent. Looking it up online I see it is referred to as bivalent, but for some reason my health record uses that specific name. I'm only on my 5th dose, as is the rest of NZ as far as I know. We did things a bit differently. So far so good. 😊

Was booked for my 6th spring booster covid vaccination on Friday but had to cancel with a covid positive test yesterday, following foreign travel over Easter.GPs idea is that I may not need the spring booster now as resulting antibodies will suffice. But what about mutations? Does each new vaccine move with virus changes?

Actually latest advice seems to be as long as you feel okay you can still attend for vaccine -there isn’t a time limit of 28 days after having covid as there used to be .

This is what it says on my confirmation letter -

“What to do if you have had COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19:

If you have COVID-19, or think you might, wait until you feel better before getting vaccinated. You should also wait if you have a high temperature or feel particularly unwell with any illness. If you have recently got better from COVID-19, there is no need to delay getting vaccinated.”

As for whether extra antibodies will suffice, even though I had covid a few weeks ago I’m still going for my vaccine next month.

From a comment either on this thread or another does imply the Sanofi/GSK monovalent (beta variant) covers omicron variant but haven’t seen that on official site.

Thankyou dear Dorset Lady. So grateful for your informed advice.I'll book my 6th jab when I feel better.

Kind regards, waltztherapy.

professor Rod Hughes told me he is seeing a significant number of patients with adverse reactions to the boosters, impacting prednisolone, causing flares and halting tapering, can you tell us what you know?

DorsetLady profile image

Nothing official about that -I’m not in with the in-crowd! Only info I’ve seen is what people are saying on here…

Has he put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard highlighting that fact?

I'm sure you will get much better protective antibodies from having the actual illness. I wouldn't subject your immune system to another jab and risk a flare.

Thanks for your reply.Having another flare from a new vaccine variant could be a risk I guess, when the actual illness does not seem to have triggered a flare - just feeling rotten with flu-like symptoms

A bit of a dilemma here.

My OH had the Sanofi yesterday because he is 77, I am 69 and had Pfizer. They told me that because I was under 75, I couldn't have the Sanofi, as there is an adjutant in it! Is that right? My arm is really aching this morning, I can hardly lift it, but Mick is fine.

Just found this on the Sanofi/GSK webpage -

About VidPrevtyn BetaVidPrevtyn

Beta is a monovalent, recombinant-protein COVID-19 vaccine developed by Sanofi, modelled on the Beta variant spike antigen and includes GSK’s pandemic adjuvant. The same recombinant-protein technology is used in Sanofi’s approved seasonal flu vaccines. The approval by the MHRA is valid in Great Britain only. This SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (B.1.351 strain) vaccine was approved via the European Commission (EC) Decision Reliance Route. The EU licence includes the territory of Northern Ireland.

Hmm, don't really understand all that, but the paperwork he was given said "There are two multidose vials (antigen vial and adjuvant vial) that must be mixed before use! AS03 is included in this vaccine as an adjuvant to enhance production of specific antibodies, squalene,DL-a-tocopheral and polysorbate, so I am none the wiser really, lol. I just know that I couldn't have the flu jab with the adjuvant in it, and wondered if it was worth mentioning as a caution to under 75's?

Before you have vaccine there is an opportunity to speak to a doctor - so [hopefully] they would discuss existing illnesses and what vaccines are suitable or not….

JanboC in reply to DorsetLady

I had to ask whether I was having that one, thankfully, I didn't due to my age! But, I'm sure there are people over 75 that have GCA/PMR?

DorsetLady profile image

For sure there are….and some of us that had it, but don’t anymore, so I will ask the question!

Just got home from having my sixth jab- this time the VidPrevtyn Beta one from Sanofi (catchy name isn't it?). The needle wielder did not really have an explanation as to why this is the preferred vaccine this time round, or at least not one that I could understand. She did say however that it might give me a sorer arm than previous ones. But so far so good.

I’ve just had this one. I have got a sorer arm. The nurse said it’s the new updated version dealing with omicron as well as covid

Mine is pretty sore at the moment, and the paperwork they gave me after I had it says, if you have a weakened immune system or you are using medicines that weaken the immune system(such as high-dose corticosteroids or cancer medicines) talk to your GP. I am only on low dose, but maybe GCA patients should check.

can I ask, were you invited or did you need to request a vaccine?

OldPenny profile image
OldPenny in reply to Whatawonderfullife

Hi Wawl. I suspect that Purplegloss was invited, as I was, because of being classed as immuno-suppressed previously, due to taking (high dose) prednisolone. Since originally being vaccinated (no PMR) to being boosted (>10mg pred) to now (6mg pred) I'm not sure how immuno-suppressed I actually am. BTW, I had COVID last year, in June. When I'm jabbed this afternoon I will no doubt have a conversation with the needle-weilder to justify my priority appointment 😉 OP

I was invited and I am only on 1.5. Get NHS invite and GP surgery .

Went onto the NHS site, subject covid, put in relevant info, they gave you several locations to chose from, date/time confirmed straightaway on mobile, sorted.

Yes, I was invited by my local GP practice, they are pretty quick off the mark with Covid jabs.

have any Actemra users had their 6th jab and if so, how long did you lay off your injections before and how long before restart?

Deyazlex profile image

yep, was given this yesterday too, it was my 7th! No problems as yet, didn’t have to wait the recommended 15 mins after which was encouraging. Apparently it is of French origin

I have just cancelled my 7th due on 30th. I have been left with a painful shoulder/arm from the last jab. Spikevax. Want to know what I am getting b4 hand. 😕
