Has anyone else noticed a change in their food tastes as a side effect of Prednisolone? At the age of 67 I generally know what food & drink I like and I find that I don’t enjoy or even want a cup of tea any more for example. Fish is no longer on the menu, makes me feel slightly sick.
Is this common or maybe just me (unluckily) ?

When I started pred originally I immediately stopped craving a carby snack in the afternoon! Trust me to be different ... But otherwise, not really except the type if wine I like changed - no more heavy reds for me.
Just thinking... if this is recent it could be first sign of covid? I've got covid at the moment and everything tastes different. Hope it isn't for you.
thanks Janet, I don’t think so but I will do another test to make sure. Been like it for some months (started Pred in Sept 22), didn’t really enjoy Xmas dinner so it started before that and just seems more noticeable as time goes on. Weird
It would be hard to specify specifics but I have noticed that some things don't seem to taste the same. Like PMRpro heavy reds are not the same as they were and they used to be a favourite.
Oh, yeah! My taste buds have dulled and I don't enjoy food like I used to (and boy did/do I enjoy food!) This has been going on for some weeks. I really miss the ability to taste things like I used to. Hope as I reduce the steroids, the taste comes back. xoxo
It is a common complaint as people age. And pred speeds some of the aging processes. What I find is that I am pickier - if I don't particularly like something I can't be bothered with it.
I've lost a lot of taste and smell since being on pred. Very annoying as I love cooking and have to guess the seasoning to a certain extent and take pot luck. I can taste strong thinks like marmite and mustard!
My first year on Pred was marked by an unprecedented distaste for sweet things. By contrast, everything savoury tasted even better than before. Both phenomena mellowed after a year.
I used to have quite a sweet tooth but since being on pred I’ve changed my diet, low carb, fish, eggs, some meat, mostly chicken, lots of veg, a little dark chocolate, fruit and yoghurt. I don’t crave sweet things any more (although I still have the odd dessert if eating out) and feel so much healthier as a result. I put on the half a stone of the stone I’d lost with GCA but feel healthy at 9 stone and 5’3”.
Most definitely. The things I used to enjoy I don't even bother with for the mostpart. I used to drink tea with milk and sugar; don't drink it now and it puts me right off. When I drink tea, it's usually herbal. I used to use a lot of unpasturized honey; don't bother now. Food just doesn't taste quite as good, but I'm usually very hungry. I go on a roll of enjoying a particular meal, and then it's off the menu. Sometimes I crave a salad. I would love to buy salad fixings, but they go rotten, because one salad is enough. LOL. I live alone, but cook every night. I find fast food too salty. Still love the sweets though. That didn't change. Unsure if it's the food or my tastebuds at this point.
Thank you for posting that wendy. 3 years ago when I started the prednisone I had the same reaction. Basically with my sense of taste rather disappeared. My sense of smell was fine. My family thought maybe I had covid but that wasn't it at all anything that was starchy for example breads pastas and particularly rice just were not appealing to me at all I stuck to fruits and more vegetables. So I am pleased to hear that it wasn't just me although not everybody has had the same reactions so just hang in there
