Pred. side effect

I have been on Prednisolone for 2 years and suddenly , after a chest infection 3 moths ago, have started to sweat a lot after a 2 mile walk or any kind of physical activity even in very cold weather.

Often my shirts are soaked! I cannot get down below 10mg a day without suffering with PMR.

Is this a common side effect of pred.?

Sweating is a side effect of pred. I used to tell people I had been swimming! It normally has an effect at higher doses and then gets better as you reduce though. Do you take any other drugs?

It can also be a sign your illness is not under control -and maybe in your case a hangover from the virus .

Plus although you are a bit higher than we would normally expect, you may be one of those where adrenals start complaining. It’s usually when you are around 7-8mg Pred, but it can be above that..

Also your comment about PMR returning when trying to get below 10mg which may indicate it’s not under control -and you still require at least 10mg . Maybe a little more…,

yes! I walk around with a towel round my neck when it starts! First every pore on my head leaks, it drips off nose, chin, ears etc. it goes on for about 40 minutes often, then I change all my clothes & hope it’s done…obviously sometimes I take a second shower! It’s horrible, it’s a side effect. Does happen at night sometimes. It’s getting less as I taper, but still there! You should see related posts, this comes up often, &bis probably in the FAQs section, too.

Thank you everyone. Very helpful. Gives me even more reason to grit my teeth and double down on reducing dose. It is easy to pop another pill but one must have good reasons to gain the determination to beat this horrible condition and get back to normal. Knowing the side effects of pred. is important in this respect.

I do feel for you. I’ve had sweating episodes day and night for 6 years now since starting prednisolone. I did mention it to my GP and their suggestion was anti depressants which I decided not to take as I feel that I already take enough necessary tablets and didn’t want to introduce more tablets that I could manage without. However it is still an uncomfortable nuisance isn’t it!

It can be - but sweating can also be due to the PMR inflammation being very close to the surface if you are skating around your lowest effective dose so beware of forcing the pred dose down.
