Good morning. 3 months ago my consultant decided to do a PTH test with my normal blood tests. It showed low PTH result of17.10pg/ml so she told me to stop taking calcium supplements and we would retest in 3 months. I have just had latest result which is 17.80pg/ml. Here is spain range is 18.5-88. I am seeing consultant tomorrow for 3 month check up. Does any one have experience of this at all. other bloods this time normal. CRP 0.10 and Sedimentation 5. Thank you

Not sure I understand her logic there - low PTH can lead to low blood calcium and then you need calcium supplements to keep it in range. I suppose she was wanting to see if the supplements were causing the low PTH - and at least it has gone up.

What was the calcium level at the time of the PTH assays?

9.6 and 9.4 my calcium appears normal. I have taken calciferol D2 every 15 days and no calcium supplements in last 3 months.

Don't know why she was panicking about the PTH, really don't. However, if you are fine without them - one less thing to mess about with!
