Not really a PMR/GCA problem, but a reminder that in the UK this weekend, we move from Greenwich Mean Time to British Summer Tiime. The clocks go forward one hour tonight (Saturday), or if you want to be really accurate at 02:00 on Sunday morning.

Morning SJ, you are up bright and early today, all OK?

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to Bcol

Normal for me 😉. The wind outside is pretty wild.

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to SheffieldJane

Like me then. Yes it is here as well, with a bucketful of rain to go with it.

I've been awake most of night. Up in Harrogate for weekend but been blowing a hooley all night and wind beating against window. Its a miserable, grey morning! Off trying wedding outfits on later with DIL-to-be so that should cheer things up a bit.Mustn't forget the 'clocks'!

One hour less sleep.... haha!... not exactly helpful when sleep is particularly important for us all.

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to Kendrew

Good luck with the hat etc, suggest you don't put head outside the door!!! It's still, as you say, blowing a hooley here and tiddling down with rain. Have a fab weekend.

Sunny here, but blustery too….

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to DorsetLady

Got the blustery bit but sadly, not the rest. Dull, overcast and wet. 🌧️💨

Not doing much outside today [got bloomin’ covid..harrumph!] - but managed to get a bit of fresh air yesterday sorting out bird table etc in garden.

Oh pooh, that's not good, hope its not too bad. Take care and look after yourself. We are off to see the (some of) GC's today so will probably get back home exhausted.

Now I have retired, I kind of ignore it, it throws and annoys me twice a year - since I had babies on 4 hourly feeds grrr!

Enjoy yourself Kendrew, I hope the wedding is perfect, weather and all.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to SheffieldJane

There was a lot to be said for demand feeding ...

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to PMRpro

Yes, but how could you identify the demand?!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to tempusfugi

She woke up and demanded!!! I breast fed both the girls for + a year, always on demand and never to a timetable - and it works both ways, my demand too if I needed to go out, they got a feed first. Worked fine.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to PMRpro

I wanted to breast feed my son and did so for 6 weeks or so, until Drs told me they wanted me to stop: "We don't want a drowsy baby". I was taking phenytoin at the time (still am) so I stopped, of course. I did ask the medical profession why they hadn't told me this before!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to tempusfugi

The NHS view is "If your doctor or health visitor says your baby is healthy, you can take phenytoin while you're breastfeeding. Phenytoin passes into breast milk in small amounts. Most babies do not get any side effects, but some babies might be more sleepy or not feed as well."

Was he feeding well? Was he sleepy?

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to PMRpro

Aha! Well, I certainly didn't realise that at the time or I might have remonstrated, but I was a young thing and would probably have accepted what the Drs said. In answer to your questions, he was feeding well and slept quite normally ie not more sleepy than other bairns. Exhausting times but happy, nevertheless!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to tempusfugi

What a shame they took that from you - but he was loved, and that is what matters, and you'd had that first few weeks which is the most important.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to PMRpro

Such a kind reply, thank you PMRpro. He was and, indeed, still is much loved💕

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to tempusfugi

I loved my time breast feeding - I cried when then finally gave it up at about a year old.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to PMRpro

I did too, albeit for a relatively short time😒

We got the promised rain last night - half an inch here, an inch up in the mountains so high enough up there is a bit of new snow, Bit nowhere near enough ...

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to PMRpro

Nobody here is muttering about snow yet, but I think rain is on the menu for a few days. However, it's not unknown for snow at/around Easter.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Bcol

I've seen snow in Whitby in May ...

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to PMRpro

Really.??? 😲I've NEVER heard of that happening. When was that?

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to Kendrew

Back home from Blackpool and we have sunshine!!! Fab day, I'll just ignore the achy bones and muscles.

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLadyPMRGCAuk volunteer in reply to Bcol

😊

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Kendrew

We were over visiting early May and landed at Hull and drove up to WHitby thinking our daughter was sleeping after nights so stopped at the cafe with the big conservatory just south of Whitby for a cup of tea. Just made it into the cafe before it was almost impossible to see out!!! It was like golfball sized snowballs!

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to PMRpro

Oh my goodness. I'd never have believed it. I used to go for days out to whitby regularly when I was little and never heard of snow there. Would love to have seen it though!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Kendrew

My daughter had just started as a paramedic working out of Whitby and they took a patient to Scabs hospital, her third day I think it was about 11 years ago. On the way back to Whitby the ambo skidded on the snowy road on a hill and tipped over, she was hanging in her seat belt, That road gets a lot of snow ...

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to PMRpro

Blimey! That must have been scary. You and your family do like to live life on the edge don't you!Thank goodness she was ok.

I know up on the moors the snow can accumulate but I'd love to see whitby itself with a covering of snow. We're not far from the coast ourselves (Maldon) and snow is definitely rare. The coastal ports and villages seem to miss most of it.

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to Kendrew

It is interesting that you don't get a lot of snow as it is the East Coast. I lived in Ramsgate for a number of years on the Kent East Coast and we regularly had heavy snow.

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to Bcol

I know....not sure why that is!

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to Bcol

Have to say, here on the N Norfolk coast we don't seem to get as much snow as inland...

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to tempusfugi

The sea does keep the coastal area warmer than the areas further inland, which probably helps. Bit I do remember some bitter cold Easterly winds in Ramsgate.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to Bcol

Now THAT I can agree with, Bcol. Freezing cold north winds are the norm here but I do believe I'm getting used to them🥶

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to tempusfugi

I lived in Durham for nearly 10 years - I had thought it would be less cold than north of Dundee! I have never been so cold in my life!!

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to Bcol

When we moved to Southend in 1988 it snowed like crazy - not the same since though. I thought it was normal having moved from Yorkshire where it snowed every year.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Kendrew

It is the degree of northness - and like Durham, the wind comes directly from Scandinavia via the North Sea!

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to PMRpro

Kendrew is further north than Ramsgate though, although possibly more sheltered as the Thanet coast line sticks out a bit.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Bcol

I was thinking of the relative position of Whitby!!

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to PMRpro

That would make total sense.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to Kendrew

Ooh! Maldon - nice, Kendrew! I was brought up in Writtle, equally nice but didn't appreciate it at the time, of course🙂

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to tempusfugi

Haha! Small world. We actually live in Kelvedon but Maldon is just 15mins from us. I have a friend who lived in Writtle for a long time. Know it quite well.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to Kendrew

Writtle is a charming little village, with some lovely old houses around the large village green, including the Tudor property near the church. Quite trendy now, I understand, and expensive! I see it's marked on the BBC weather map, from time to time, as is Maldon, so must be quite 'in'😉 No doubt you know all that!

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to tempusfugi

Oh absolutely! Haha!😂Seriously though...it is quite trendy.... and expensive.

My friend used to be married to the son of the people who owned Prestons garage. Sadly they were divorced a long time ago but she still lives not too far away.

tempusfugi profile image
tempusfugi in reply to Kendrew

How interesting! I knew the people who owned Preston's Garage - well, at least I knew the mother of Rosemary, who would be the mother of the son, I think! Somewhat complicated, but there's a connection there somehow. I could be missing a generation somewhere along the line🤔. Rosemary Preston made my fancy dress for the Queens Coronation in 1953! The world gets smaller😊

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to tempusfugi

Don't know parents names but her husband was Richard.

Bcol profile image
Bcol in reply to Kendrew

Not sure about Preston garage, as I only really know Malden as my Godparents bought their boat from the Dixon Curly boatyard on the River Blackwater and we used to come back there for its winter layup for a few years.

Kendrew profile image
Kendrew in reply to Bcol

Not there anymore but the estuary is full of Thames barges still. Xx

I remember snow in Derbyshire in June sometime in the 1970's. I was visiting a lovely old soul wearing a sheepskin coat one time and shirt sleeves the next. As she said - didn't recognise you without your clothes!!
