Hi and welcome!
Loads of information - ready and waiting for you and DorsetLady has already given you the links. It looks daunting, be selective at first but always look to see if your question appears there first before asking on the open forum. But we are always here to answer the other variations!
It is pretty overwhelming and confusing. Luckily, most of us here have been on this exact same journey.
Delve into this site - scroll, search, use the FAQs ... Tons of great information, plus a really good community of folks.
Don't be shy engaging. I think it's one of those things where, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
I see this community as more of a support group. Apart from them, there's really no one else I can talk to about these things.
The good news is steroids are a wonder drug. If you have PMR you must recognise you have an illness so it is important you rest, rest, rest. If you don’t look after yourself the PMR will turn round and bite you. Your doctor should have prescribed vitamin D with calcium to help against a steroid side affect that can affect the bone density. Also you should have a Dexascan that will measure your bone density. If you slowly reduce the steroids and look after yourself, stick to a low carb, healthy diet, everything should be fine.
Welcome to the site! 🐣
This forum and PMR website and Kate Gilbert’s book on PMR v good - pace yourself on sport - good luck
Morning all can anyone give me sum Advicei have been getting weak arms with PMR been on steroids for three weeks pain much better should I do gentle exercise for my arms
The sensation of "weak arms" is something many people mention - and doctors don't "get". I've tried to explain it as more a lack of control - arms and legs won't do what you want them to! I was recently introduced to a paper about myofascial pain syndrome which seems to account for the problem - working on getting rheumies to register it!
It is mentioned in guidelines that appropriate physio programmes are advisable - don't over do the weights if that is what you choose to use and don't do too many reps. Start with very light (even no weights, using a water bottle and adding water as you get "trained" is good) and make sure you aren't developing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) by resting the next day and assessing. That applies for all exercise programmes you decide to try - you MUST build up slowly. VERY, what may seem ridiculously slowly!
Thanks you for information how you explained I understand I was getting bit worried now iam ok with what you have written
