Back at 10mg what to do now?

Was on 2mg went on holiday and had a flare. Increased to 7 for 8 days, dropped to 2.25 for 5 days, then 2.5 for 3 days, then 7.5 proved to not be enough.Had a tel consult with Doctor who advised 10mg. Have been on that for 4 days and am feeling much better.

How long should I stay on 10mg?

What reduction or taper should I use?

I am so upset about the mess I am in.

This link contains advice for dealing with a flare….so you have gone a bit higher than usual recommended dose.

I would still stay on that for 7-10 days - but you could then reduce in a couple of steps -say to 6.5mg or 7mg for a week, then 3mg. Or if you are feeling nervous maybe 3 steps down. 10 to 8mg, 8mg to 5mg , 5mg to 3mg -with about 5 days at each step.

Make final drop to 3mg for 3-4 weeks to may sure you are back on track before continuing taper.

Thank you so much for advice. I have taken note of each step as I certainly wouldn't have worked that out myself.

Yes I will keep you up-to-date. I had visions of taking months to get down to 5mg or less. Much happier to have a plan to follow x

Provided you catch a flare quick enough and with enough Pred, it should be relatively easy to drop back down again to just above dose that caused the issue previously.

Some doctors don’t give that option and suggest you creep up, but that rarely works, you need to be brave and give it a good kick in the proverbial!

But you also need to be sure you are stable at the dose you’ve dropped back down to before you try reducing again.

Like the "proverbial ".Take it that I should be stable at each of the steps you have suggested?

I do try to be polite sometimes 😊

— and yes, you do need to be stable but you should be okay for just a week at those earlier steps provided you caught it with initial dose -and once you to your “final” stop then as I said stay a bit longer…

I feel you pain. I’m in much the same situation. But it’s hopeless being in pain, tired and fed up. Good luck 🤞
