I'm experimenting with trying to take Pred at different times to see if I can lessen the effects of insomnia. Thanks to a recommendation from PMRCanada, I recently bought some gel capsules from a company in the USA called Capsuline and have tried taking the Pred in them before I go to bed around midnight to have a delayed release effect.
I don't think they are working brilliantly for me, I think the Pred is still kicking in around 2 hours later at 3am and I'm still struggling to sleep - it does say the effect varies from person to person. But thought they might be worth a try for others. On the other hand, I wake up feeling much better than if I take the Pred at 9am when I wake up, presumably because the timing concides with the inflammation that hits our bodies about 4am. I shall persevere. They were quite pricey about £35 and I had to pay about £30 air freight on top so about £65 altogether but that's for 1000 which works out about 6.5p each and might be worth a try especially for those of you in the USA where postage will be less. You can get ordinary gel capsules in the UK on Amazon etc but the enteric ones work out much more expensive per unit. Presumably being enteric you don't need to worry about taking them with a stomach-sparer but I still take with a bit of food to be on the safe side.
Do have a look at my posts on my insomnia which has been a dominant issue this whole year. The good news is that the treatment I am having for it is working despite the increased steroids due to my latest flare.
Do send me a private message if you want to know any more about this natural “cure”.
Glad you are getting better relief in the mornings due to you adjusting the time you take your dose. Sorry to hear the new method and product is not alleviating your insomnia, but worth a try. I remember dealing with it when I was at higher doses, and not getting sleep certainly impacted me the next day.
Fortunately for me being in Canada the shipping was much less, and the enteric capsules help as I don’t have to deal with the inconvenience of trying to take my dose at 2am. I’ve had no gut issues either (I don’t take them with any food at 11pm nightly). The other part of my split dose is plain pred at 11am with food.
Hoping you get some relief and restful nights soon.
Another option I've tried is to take the Pred when I invariably wake up in the night, but that can be anywhere between 6am and 8am and I wondered if I was psychologically telling myself I HAD to wake up to take the tablets. So I'm trying a routine of taking them between mignight and 2am then going to bed and seeing what happens. I'm tired but wired and just not sleepy usually hopefully I will develop some kind of a routine if I persevere.
Anyone who would like to order the capsules but is daunted by the postage charge - ask around your friends to see if they have Amazon Prime which should mean reduced cost shipping.
I've been using capsuline enteric, ordered directly from the company for more than a week. They are a godsend. My stomach no longer hurts constantly, no longer hurts at all. Thank you, tangocharlie. I think there was also a suggestion from a person in Canada -- thanks to this person, also. I do not order from amazon because I read of too many complaints regarding bottle or package not sealed correctly, and other problems with supplements, capsules, etc. My first order to capsuline was small as I wanted to see if they really work. They do! So, I've placed another order (larger) in order to make shipping costs worthwhile. Again, thanks for this most worthwhile suggestion on this site. I can avoid extra pills such as proton pump inhibitors. If anyone else tries capsuline, I do hope you have the same luck as I've had.
