To the one who posted about excessive sweats..

hi...in the last few days someone talked sbout excessive sweating....I remembered that I had seen this episode of Diagnose Me that featured s woman with this problem...I identified my menopause was hell so I remembered it. I remembered that it was resolved by using a med. Anyway it is strange because I was looking for something on cable just now and lo and behold there was the same episode! So the med is Oxybutynin...it's used for bladder issues but works on sweat glands as well...thru neurotransmitters.

I have no info beyond that but at least with help from someone in the cosmos I am able to pass on the name of the med. Now those same forces need to bring the "poster" to this post so they can read it.

Pred will decrease the level or effect of oxybutynin by altering drug metabolism. It also can have interaction effects of fever and fatigue if oxybutynin is taken with pred.

When we had a support group and wrote a little book in which we had Tips & Tricks was with Golden Riles.

Golden Rule: When issued with a new prescription for different medication, buying over the counter remedies or homeopathic remedies, check with the Pharmacist for compatibility with what you are already taking before buying or using. Pharmacists know more about drugs than any other medic.

This was No 1 of these rules.

Mind you it would be nice if some doctors were told about that rule!!! It reminds me of our neighbour who ran a pharmacy before computerised prescriptions. She said she had to check the prescriptions meticulously due to the number of errors. One doctor had written Windolene one prescription, obviously their mind was not on the job.

it was only because I had a new prescription and Lara my pharmacist when I took it in - said no-way and rang my GP etc. Lara then sat me down and explained about compatibility.

It is bad when pharmacists have to keep doctors on the straight and narrow.

Mine missed GP mixing Medrol and Cipro. Result for me - 9 months on crutches and a weak point achilles problem ever since.

That is horrendous. The trouble is they get away with and do not learn from their mistakes. Grrrr.

The GP said "I've heard of it, never seen it though". So I replied "You have now ..."

She was quite good at diabetes though!

I had a Saturday job in a chemist's as a teenager. Being able to make out gps' handwriting was a feat - sometimes i would read out possible things a prescription might say to the pharmacist and she'd shout yes! when it made sense

wow....thank you for sharing that. The first response explained why it was not a good mix with pred..nso.. but all I wanted to do.was put it out there for whomever to see and then do their good dilligence. I wish I had hesrd of it back when I was in my 40's!

I find myself on a temp seesaw. Hot one minute cold the next. It's crazy..

So I am new to PMR and higher doses of pred. I had been on 3 mg.for 8 years to work with placquenil to keep sjogrens RA at bay. Now this and it's a mess. The pred dosing was mot handled right so I just started over again for the 3rd time since May. Ugh. I hope to reach some level of improvement. I feel like I have not found the right first dose to reduce from. It's been a roller coaster. My pain is.really bad.

So when do you have to start seeing an endo? Ifnyour adrenals tank what do you do....take pred or....I don't know enough about this part.

I am do sorry your friend passed. It is pretty amazing how connections happen. People...things....

thank you for following up.....I just moved to Delaware from DC...do my docs are new. The issue for me was when I was diagnosed I was not given a lot of info, just a scedule

As I was saying...I was given a schedule to reduce the pred. At 23 mgs. I did feel better but I also did not know what I was looking for so to speak. The focus was reduving the pred which I did. That was the beginning of this dance I find myself in now and the ups and downs in dosing. So I am starting over for the 3rd time. The one helpful thing for me is most of the PMR symptoms are different than everything else I have lived with. Even the fatigue feels different. My rheumy wants to put me on methotrexate or something similar. I tried that for RA and got 2 infections right away. It makes me nervous...I have not seen her in month...and she's not available ublntilid Oct. She won't be happy with the dosing but I am doing what feels right. I would be happy to hear both.sides of the story on pred. So....

Hmmmm…Looked up oxybutynin on Drugs.Com, and it says oxybutynin reduces perspiration.

well the woman I saw on the show loved the results. It took years for her to get.help.and it was so bad.she stopped going out of the house. Then her husband found an article about what ended up being a good side effect. Anyway her life turned around....that is why I thought of the show....scary then it pops up......
