Its nearly 2months now, since I ended my tapering regime on prednisolone for PMR.

My blood results of recent for CRP is2.2mg/l and ESR is 13mm/hr. I am feeling good too.

I would like thank the group members for the wealth of information and support I received over the many months. My best wishes to all the members, be positive, stay strong and take care.

Great you are doing well and continue with the successful journey

Very well done. How many yrs have you had PMR and what was your tapering regime ?

Many thanks. I began to have the symptoms of PMR following the Pfizer vaccine in July/August 2021. Commenced on prednisolone 20mg 02/09/21, I couldn’t come to terms with the diagnosis and within 6weeks period I reduced the prednisolone to 2.5mg. Consultant Rheumatologist’s saw me in Early October 21’, my CRP and ESR very high.I had no choice but recommence back to 12.5mg and began to slowly taper . I ended my tapering regime on the 10/07/22. Take care.

Sounds identical to my story. Started after Pfizer. I believe it was the catalyst to send me into PMR like symptoms.

Congratulations

Would be really interesting to know how many on the Forum succumb to PMR soon after receiving the Covid Vax. I don't think I can blame it on that, but I did have the shingles jab, but even that was approx 18mths before PMR/GCA got hold of me. I think it would take millions of people to have PMR after the Covid or even Shingles Vax for the Pharma industry to look into it.

There are some Anne - but remember there are thousands more who are here having developed it long before Covid or the jab. Some blame the flu or shingles jabs - I'd had neither. Others blame having had flu or shingles - again, lots of us who hadn't. There are millions who had Covid and have developed Long Covid which very often is similar to PMR or anther autoimmune disorder - the vaccine reduces the likelihood of that. Yes - it has caused some cases, but it has prevented a lot of far worse events.

in reply toPMRpro

Yep, probably will never be categorically proven. All my 4 were Pfizer.

it probably can trigger the immune system into going mad - what I'm saying is that there are a lot of other factors involved besides. If it hadn't been the Covid jab, it would probably have been the next infection you got or stress of some sort. And there is a genetic component for everyone - plus a lifetime of other things. You can't pick on it alone.

agree

staplehurst, I started after the second Pfizer jab

in reply toKarendeena

Did you speak to anyone about this and if so what was their reaction ? This is so awful if people are getting diseases due to vaccinations. I bet the Pharma companies wouldn't agree. I think I'll mention this to my rheumy on the 15th and see what he thinks.

PMRpro profile image

More people have become seriously sick with the diseases the vaccinations are designed to protect you from than have developed something due to the vaccines. They wouldn't be released if the risks outweighed the benefits and they don't. Look how many people have died due to Covid before the vaccines.

in reply toPMRpro

That's very true

Hi staplehurst, yes I spoke to my GP who actually said it could be related the vaccine, her words "We don't know enough about these vaccines at the moment", report it through the yellow card, which I did

Oh you lucky lucky person! It is heart warming to hear and inspiring to know it is possible! All the very best.

in reply toRidge

I believe I was unlucky to develop the symptoms of PMR following the Pfizer vaccine. In the early stages of diagnosis/treatment, I was angry with myself for taking the Pfizer vaccine, went through all the emotional feelings of sadness. But thank God, I have come through with a positive journey. Best wishes.

How interesting! I thought the Pfizer was supposedly better than the AstraZeneca. A month after the first AstraZeneca jab all PMR symptoms reappeared strongly. I had got down to 3mgs I think. Went up to 10mg then the slowish reduction. The 3rd vac was Pfizer. No reaction to that. But what does seem to be bad news is Covid. I have had it twice. No one has mentioned Covid on this site as far as I can see.

in reply toRidge

I guess taking the covid vaccine is an individual choice . I had two doses of Pfizer vaccine July/August 2021 and that was the end of my vaccination program.

PMRpro profile image

Oh it has been mentioned - a LOT! I read every single post and reply - Covid has featured a lot.

It isn't whether a vaccine is better or worse than another one - any vaccine can trigger PMR/GCA, there are people whose PMR started after the flu jab or the shingles jab. Or flu, or shingles, or any other illness, accident, stress, anything that stresses the immune system in any way, If you developed it after a Covid jab, the chances are your immune system was about at tipping point and the next potential trigger you experienced would have done it.

As for Covid - it is fairly likely that many cases of Long Covid could possibly be PMR-like. It is almost certainly and autoimmune disorder of some sort with features that parallel PMR or inflammatory arthritis or lupus or another of the more than 80 autoimmune conditions scientists have identified so far.
